Once UCF turned up their intensity and shut down our transition game, it was game over. Had they done that from the tip we would've lost by 30.
To be fair to UCF, our transition game has really changed for the better over the last month. To be fair to us, you can't fault us for taking what we are given. UCF's bad defense isn't our fault.

To also be fair, once UCF corrected it, it was clear we didn't have any other good offensive option. Our "high risk - high reward" passes got risker as our players got more worn out. I really feel like we needed one or two more good subs; if we had those, we would have won this game.

Didn't N Carolina ride 5 or 6 players all the way to the National Championship last year?

      • My point is, why continually put in subs that blow leads very quickly? With all the breaks in a college basketball game, there is no reason a player can't play the entire game.

Sure they can. But the other team with the ability to have some players take a breather will still be better off.

LOL. Because there are only two instances this season in all of college basketball where a player has played all 40 minutes in a non-OT game.

No. That happened long before this game.

Honestly, who here didn't expect that game to end in a loss even at say halftime or whatever other point in the game we were at with a lead?

I'm sure there were some who may have thought it might happen and we'd hold a lead against a decent, but injured, team. However, I would guess most of us just knew that wasn't going to happen and the game would fall apart before the end. The fact that losing a lead late and losing the game is the expectation of many, if not most, should be an indication that the last straw is nothing bust dust in the wind at this point.

                  • I know our bell cow program is at a crossroads when the only silver lining I see today is that the Shocker softball team opens their season tomorrow.

I don't think so, as that presupposes a hypothesis that a win versus UCF would have saved IB his job.

I have no inside info, but IB is either gone at the end of this season or he isn't, but it has nothing to do with the product on the court (barring an unlikely run in the AAC and then NCAA tournaments). At this point, the verdict is in there. Whether IB is gone is a pure money thing now.

Ok, you have to speak slowly for me to understand. Are you saying that when IB gets fired, the basketball “product” would have nothing to do with his release?

A win might have indicated that the progress we thought we were seeing was real,

LOL the six or so players that are productive should play more and the rest, less. You think that's not reasonable?

Even back in the 80"s with far less TV breaks Carr averaged over 35, Sherrod averaged 33, 35.4 and 37 in 3 seasons, McDaniel 33, 37.7, and 37 in 3 season.

That is for the season and includes the time they set out with big leads. In close games they pretty much played the entire game.

I wonder if IB would rather lose than make players on the team unhappy by not getting minutes for them.

The money to make a change is more important than the product on the floor. If there's no way to make the money work, then we're stuck with whatever product ends up on the floor.

It's a little like paying your electric bill. If you don't have the money to pay the bill, it doesn't matter how much you want electricity - you're going to have to make do with what you've got until you have the money to fix the problem.
