  • Today in Shockers Sports History: January 31st

For the day, the Shockers are:
    20 and 13

    Regular Season (Games of Interest):
2016 – (#22) WSU won at Evansville in Evansville, Ind. 78-65. Wichita State's Fred VanVleet had a perfect day. He tied a school record by making all 15 of his free-throw attempts and kept the Shockers unbeaten in Missouri Valley Conference play. The senior guard scored a career-high 32 points and became the first Shockers player since 1963 to go 15 of 15 from the free-throw line while leading No. 22 Wichita State to a 78-65 victory at Evansville. Wichita State (16-5, 10-0) has won 11 straight and has a three-game lead over Evansville and Southern Illinois, which are tied for second place. The Shockers already have swept the Purple Aces (18-5, 7-3) and will do the same to the Salukis if they can win Wednesday night. Marshall now has 220 victories in nine seasons at Wichita State, tying Ralph Miller for the most in school history.

2010 – Won at Southern Illinois in Carbondale, Ill. 55-54. Graham Hatch scored 13 points and Garrett Stutz added 12 as Wichita State held off Southern Illinois 55-54 Sunday night. The Shockers (19-4, 8-3 Missouri Valley), who ended an 11-game losing streak in Carbondale, led by as many as 10 in the second half before watching the Salukis pull to within one on three occasions. Southern Illinois (12-9, 4-7), though, couldn't surge ahead. After Kevin Dillard's layup cut Wichita State's lead to 55-54 with 19.3 seconds to play, Clevin Hannah missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 15.6 seconds remaining. Dillard then got the ball back, but his running shot in the closing seconds failed to drop.

2009 – Beat Drake in Wichita 63-47. Toure Murry scored 17 points to lead Wichita State to a 63-47 victory over Drake Saturday at Koch Arena. The Shockers (10-12, 4-7 Missouri Valley) did not trail in the final 27 minutes while winning their fourth straight home game. Clevin Hannah and J.T. Durley had 10 points each for Wichita State.

X with a 20 point, 20 rebound performance. The first of his 9 career 20-20 double doubles.

According to Ted Woodward on the KNSS morning show.
