  • Today in Shockers Sports History: January 27th

For the day, the Shockers are:
    8 and 17

    Regular Season (Games of Interest):
2016 – (#22) WSU beat Loyola in Wichita 80-54. After a blowout win, it was single-digit numbers on the stat sheet that caught the eye of Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall. Ron Baker had eight points, seven rebounds, six steals and five assists to help the No. 22 Shockers rout Loyola of Chicago 80-54 on Wednesday night. "He did it all," Marshall said. "Here's a guy who represented our country (in the Pan Am Games) this summer, and he only takes six shots. Fred (VanVleet) is preseason player of the year and takes six shots. "Those guys are unselfish, and we played unselfishly." Wichita State (15-5, 9-0 Missouri Valley) had seven players score at least eight points, including Shaquille Morris with 12 and Rashard Kelly with 11. VanVleet had eight points and eight of the Shockers' 22 assists on 28 field goals. "The reality is they make you play bad," Ramblers coach Porter Moser said, "and we played bad."

2010 – Beat Illinois State in Wichita 74-66. Clevin Hannah scored 22 points to lead Wichita State to a 74-66 victory over Illinois State on Wednesday night. Toure' Murry added 12 points to help the Shockers (18-4, 7-3 Missouri Valley) maintain their hold on second place in the conference. Wichita State took control early in the second half, putting together an 11-0 run for a 50-34 lead with 12:50 remaining. Hannah scored six straight points during the stretch. Illinois State rallied late with a 16-6 run to close within 70-66 with 39 seconds to play, but Hannah and Graham Hatch hit free throws to seal the victory.

2007 – Won at Evansville in Evansville, Indiana 66-61. Sean Ogirri scored 13 points to lead Wichita State to a 66-61 victory over Evansville on Saturday. Kyle Wilson had 11 points and Ryan Martin added seven points and seven rebounds for the Shockers (14-8, 5-6 Missouri Valley Conference). Ogirri scored all 13 of his points in the second half as Wichita State used a 7-0 run over the first 57 seconds of the second half to take a seven-point lead. Evansville pulled to within one point on a layup by Bradley Strickland 4:04 into the second half, but couldn't take the lead as the Shockers hit 13 free throws over the final 15:56.
