  • Today in Shockers Sports History: January 12th

For the day, the Shockers are:
    15 and 15

    Regular Season (Games of Interest):
2020 – (#23) WSU won at UConn Hartford, Conn. 89-86 (2OT). Wichita State gave up a nine-point point lead in just over a minute at the end of regulation and had two key players foul out during two overtimes. But the Shockers found a way to get their ninth consecutive win, and eighth straight on the road dating to last season, as they held off UConn 89-86 on Sunday. "I thought we were tremendously tough and ratty, pursuing balls and getting stops," coach Gregg Marshall said. "Both teams just fought like crazy and left it all out there." Jaime Echenique led four Wichita State players in double figures with 19 points before fouling out.

2011 – Won at Creighton in Omaha, Neb. 68-54. Toure Murry's double-double led the way as Wichita State beat Creighton 68-54 on Wednesday night. Murry finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Shockers (14-3, 5-1 Missouri Valley), who are tied for second with Indiana State behind Missouri State. J.T. Durley scored 15 points and David Kyles 13, including three 3-pointers. Kyles put Wichita State ahead to stay by draining a 3-pointer to make it 44-41 with 11:11 to play. That finished a 9-0 run. The lead reached double figures at 61-50 on two free throws by Murry with 3:15 left.

    1981 – Beat West Texas A&M in Wichita 100-85

    1963 – (#8) WSU beat Bradley in Wichita 79-60

    1933 – Beat Fal YMCA-Mexico City in Wichita 47-32

    1927 – Beat St. John’s (KS) in Wichita 41-31

1909 – Won at Winfield YMCA in Winfield 47-25

I think there might be better options. We lost our last game against them by 6 points at their place.

The '27 team was tough; ole Ross singlehandedly took St. John's behind the woodshed.

Athletic Supporters worn during the Ross McBurney and WstateU years at the U (1926-1929)... we knew all about "galling and chafing".

Versions worn in the previous decade (early 1900's)... laced front, $4.80 per dozen. "The "Gym" Jockey Strap."

Of course. The real question is, can we win?
