  • Today in Shockers Sports History: January 8th

For the day, the Shockers are:
    15 and 10

    Regular Season (Games of Interest):
2017 – Won at Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa 80-66. Landry Shamet hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points and Wichita State beat Missouri Valley Conference nemesis Northern Iowa 80-66 on Sunday. Rauno Nurger added 13 points and Conner Frankamp 11 for Wichita State (14-3, 4-0). Northern Iowa came in with a 3-2 record against the Shockers the past two seasons, while Wichita State was 36-2 against the rest of the MVC in that period. The Shockers hit 55 percent (11 of 20) of their 3-pointers.

2014 – (#6) WSU beat Illinois State in Wichita 66-47. After his team won its 14th straight game, Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall challenged his players to make vast improvements on defense. Two games later, he will need to find something else to harp on. The sixth-ranked Shockers cruised past Illinois State 66-47 Wednesday night, holding the Redbirds to 32.7 percent shooting (18 of 55). Wichita State (16-0, 3-0 Missouri Valley Conference) managed to improve on the 33.9 percent shooting it limited Northern Iowa to on Sunday. "We are just more engaged as a group on that end," Marshall said. "We didn't have many individual breakdowns." Cleanthony Early and Ron Baker each scored 11 points for the Shockers, who extended both the longest winning streak and best start to a season in program history

2006 – Won at Illinois State in Normal, Ill. 56-47

2005 – Won at Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. 63-61

2005 game at Springpatch was wild. Shockers trailed most of the game but stayed close. Kyle Wilson hit a 3 in the closing seconds to take the lead, and then WSU withstood the Bears getting a pretty good look at the buzzer.
