      Here's more...

The January 3rd game in 1930 was a real barn-burner; we left doo-dah before sunrise that morning and made the trek to Enid for an early evening game. It was colder than a well-diggers backside that day and the buses heater never warmed us up. Did I say it was cold that day? The gym was ice-cold and neither team could throw it in the ocean. Even Ross struggled to find the hoop that night. The game came down to the final few seconds, when I found Ross cutting towards the basket; I gave him my patented two-handed bounce pass and he laid it off the board and got hacked with about a second remaining. Ross calmly sank the throw and we had our hard fought three-point road win. Ole Frank Phillips was pissed, and he protested the outcome; he said the clock had expired before Ross laid it off the board. Frank was a whiner. Coach Gene Johnson told him to get back on his horse (named "66") and head back to Woolaroc. We were fortunate to get out of Enid with our scalps intact...
