  • Today in Shockers Sports History: December 31st

For the day, the Shockers are:
    8 and 6

    Regular Season (Games of Interest):
2015 - Beat Drake in Wichita 67-47. Ron Baker scored 14 points, Fred VanVleet added 13, and Wichita State beat Drake 67-47 on Thursday for its eighth straight victory. Baker was 3 of 4 from 3-point range as Wichita State made 8 of 24 from distance. Zach Brown added 10 points for Wichita State (11-2), which has won six straight Missouri Valley Conference openers.

2014 - (#16) WSU Won at Drake in Des Moines, Iowa 66-58. WSU only had 12 turnovers. Ron Baker scored 23 points, including 13 straight down the stretch, and 16th-ranked Wichita State beat Drake 66-58 on Wednesday. Tekele Cotton had 17 points for the Shockers (11-2, 1-0 MVC), who answered a Christmas Day loss to George Washington with their 22nd straight Missouri Valley Conference victory. Wichita State struggled for much of the night against the team with the worst record in the Valley. The Shockers didn't take their first double-digit lead, 56-46, until there was 5:49 left. Baker's layup with 1:02 remaining gave Wichita State a 64-57 lead, and Drake turned it over on the next possession. "Just glad to get that one over with," Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall said. "We were lucky to get out of here with a win."

2004 - Beat Evansville in Wichita 91-81. Kyle Wilson scored a career-high 24 points, and Wichita State matched its best start in school history with a victory over Evansville on Friday night. Randy Burns hit five 3-pointers and added 20 points for the Shockers (9-0, 2-0 Missouri Valley Conference), who tied the record set by the 1920-21 team. Paul Miller had 14 points for the Shockers, who hit seven 3-pointers in the first half and finished the game 13-for-19 from beyond the arc. Sean Ogirri added 12 points -- all from 3-point range -- and Matt Brauer finished with three 3-pointers and 11points.
