2022-23 Expectations for Shocker Basketball – “Falltime Edition”

The long days of Summer are over, and the Fall season has begun. We are now less than 50 days before the official start of Shocker Basketball. The summer-time poll, as a group, pedicted 19.9 wins (low expectations).

So...are you feeling the Better, Same, or Worse with your expectations for the 2022-23 campaign?

Nothing has happened to change my thoughts on the season to this point. I'm excited about the new AD, but that won't impact what was already here before him.

I am going with 18 wins or less, with a bearish outlook from that point.

Most Likely Win: Central Arkansas (H), Alcorn State (H), Tarleton State (H), Longwood (H), Mississippi Valley State (H), Texas Southern (H), East Carolina (H)

Likely Win: Grand Canyon (N), Tulsa (H), Tulane (H), UCF (H), SMU (H), South Florida (H)

Toss-up: UNI or San Francisco (N), Missouri (H), Cincinnati (H), Memphis (H)

Likely Loss: Richmond (A), Kansas State (A), Oklahoma State (H), UCF (A), South Florida (A), SMU (A), East Carolina (A), Temple (A), Tulane (A)

Most Likely Loss: Memphis (A), Houston (H), Tulsa (A), Houston (A)

That would get us in the range of 13-15 wins this season.

Analysis:
We failed to get a 13 non-conference game; we picked up a tough road game vs. Richmond; and we lost a player during the summer.

I hope they prove me wrong

I'm trending apathetic. I can't even get excited about schedule release, shocker madness or the start of practice. Guess I'll switch on the TV once the games begin. I've never felt that way.

All it would take is a hot start to get most back on board. You never know. Maybe this team has the chemistry that the past few years did not

I have minimal anticipation or excitement about the upcoming season.
I really haven't felt this way since, say, the mid 90's. Even then, I had a reasonable amount of optimism. Not so for this season.
There are some nice pieces on this team and they will be enough to knock out some wins against the SWAC based non league games.
But on paper, the three Big 12 games and AAC schedule look to be much more than this team can handle and be successful.
Maybe I'm reading the tea leaves all wrong and panty boy Shocktocles enthusiasm is warranted, but just not seeing it here in September.

I mean, I will dial in. I am sure my emotions will be all over the place (high one min and low the next) each game like they have every year I have ever been a fan (since the mid 90's). But I am keeping my expectations LOWWWW. I am hoping that will help me keep me a little less grumpy over losses and help me keep my sanity.

I believe the talent is there for a very good season but remain very skeptical about the HC. We have the talent for north of 18 W's but..................? I am always excited about the start of a new season and am optimistic, for now.
