  • Shocker Auction

My take a ways from the auction last night-
    * Crowd was down at least 50% from the ones we remember. Did make it much easier to get around and food lines were never long.
    * Speaking of food, done by a catering service that I did not get the name of but was excellent!
    * Silent auction tables were a third of what we saw in previous years and quality of items way down.
    * Live auction seemed to do okay, should have kept track of the winning amounts. Largest bid was $10000 for the Shocker golf cart.
    * No players in attendance which I believe has been the norm the past few years.
    * Coach IB seems like a vey nice guy and I believe that his ability as a head coach is still up in the air. He spoke and thanked all the donors and auction staff. Spoke about the players who stayed from last year. Just wish he would speak with a little fire sometimes, just hard to get excited about anything he spoke about. Almost like listening to Folger again. Guess we are little spoiled from some of our past coach's personalities.
    * Emcee was Kenmitz, Kennedy in attendance but not on stage.
    * Compared to the volleyball 101 last year this came up way short, would like to how the money raised compares.
    * Open bar, good food and people to visit with is always a fun night. Still recommend going if you have never been.

Sad the auction has fallen so much.

Was always a fun event in the past.

Like it or not FHCGM was a great public presence who filled a room with energy. IB is the exact opposite. Not his fault. It’s just the way it is. It was easy to get excited about a program led by Marshall. This auction will never be a good scene for IB. But like anything else, winning fixes a lot of stuff. We just have zero energy in the program. All the more reason we need the right AD.

I have never seen fire from IB and that was carried over to the team on the court. No play Angry, no MTXE just appeared to go through the motion until the last 5 minutes then too late. I hear IB is a nice guy and a players coach. But you know where nice guys finish.

I don’t know…Tony Bennett seems like a pretty nice guy.

You all are probably correct. Watching many of the games and after game interviews, I really think TE was the coach. He did take credit for yelling at Dex and telling him what to do before he took that late game 3. He was also telling players what to do as they left the huddle after time out. Maybe IB will have better success this next year.

                  LMFAO.

For a second there, I thought you just compared IB to Tony Bennett.

Totally agree. There are exceptions for sure. Tony Bennett is a stud!

As sad as this may be, I feel like boyshocker actually my have made the auction sound better than it actually was.

*As mentioned attendance was easily down 50%

*Food was catered by WSU's catering service "Chartwells". I heard a lot of people say they didn't like it. I was hungry and thought it was ok.

*I was very disappointed with the silent auction. I usually leave with a couple items but didn't see a single thing that peaked my interest this year. I don't know who dropped the ball on this one but it was literally 20% or less the number of items and very few sponsors donated anything. Most items were pictures of players.

*Live auction was the worst I've ever seen in the history of this event in terms of money raised. Usually there is an item or 2 that will get 20k+ and sever items over 10k. I've seen over 100k for a single item. This year was the golf cart for 10k and that was it. The same item in year's past goes for 12k - 15k. Several items are the same year after year.
*Dinner served by Coach and the team at someone's house is $1000 per couple. They sell 25 of these every single year. They sold 2 this year!
*Christmas pics with WU and dinner with the team is $250 for a family of 6. They normally sell 35 of these....I think 12 were sold...My buddy and I each bought this item for our families.

*Our group of 10 still had a good time just because it was a good opportunity to get together and have some drinks. I'm not blaming anyone but like everyone else I'm very concerned about the direction fundraising and just interest in the program. Hopefully a new AD can change that. If IB can't get the job done this year we have to move on because most of the boosters already have.

Does anyone know about how the golf tournament did? Similar to years past?

I've missed very few auctions in the past. I honestly didn't even remember it was going on and would not have thought about it at all had this thread not been started. Really sad. But the people who spend money and donate to our program have checked out. I'm right there with them.
