i have a question that has been weighing on me for a while now and thought that i would "phone some friends" to see if my feelings are mainstream or just my own.?.

many of our alumni - both uber wealthy and common folks have made planned gifts to wichita state in their estate plans... i'm one of them (life insurance gift to saso) and i'm struggling with both the direction of the athletic department, the university, and the free-agent festival that athletics has turned into. for those who are season ticket holders, have made planned gifts or have considered making one, has your current gift / planned gift been on your mind lately?

I don't have a planned gift or anything .. but on my normal SASO, I lowered it down to the bare minimum required to keep my seats this year. I just don't have confidence the AD will spend the money appropriately

I have thought about a planned gift in the past, but a few things that have happened (even non-athletics related) have made me rethink that.

As for SASO/MBB season tickets, I think I am really just waiting to see how they handle ticket pricing. No way “should” they run it back with $500 season tickets, but I absolutely would not be shocked to see them try, only to have it blow up in their faces.

Even if the department wasn’t a complete fuster cluck right now, I just don’t have the desire to go to every single game like I might have in the past. Changing priorities. I seem to be pretty resourceful and know where to find tickets for a good deal when I can and want to go. There hasn’t been a game in years where you’d say “If you don’t have season tickets, you won’t get a ticket.“ Maybe 2018 senior day versus Cincinnati?

Just my $0.02, which is doubly more important than the Memphis coach.

To get this off my chest, I will use this time to say if you don’t feel like supporting the athletic department because of recent mismanagement, please consider donating to the 95% of the university that is doing well. There are plenty of scholarship funds, foundations, student programs and endowments that would be very appreciative of your gift and would put it to use wisely. Cutting ties with the university because of one bonehead that seems to be made of Teflon may make you feel better but there are other ways you can support.

Okay, don’t see the all or nothing rationale there, but it’s your choice. This board seems to eat up your time so the university must be deserving of that?

I support the university financially because that is required to attend basketball games not because I have an allegiance to WSU as a whole. I graduated from Friends University as well as 2 of my kids and another is currently attending there. I support Friends because it is my alma mater, I support WSU because I am a big Shocker basketball fan.

I have been following the Shockers since 1979. I have always been a loyal supporter. The athletic department decided to make having good seats and parking a lot more costly in the last 10 years. I paid up and was ok with it. They were able to do this because Marshall molded us into a perennial NCAA team with one exception. Once they decided to push Marshall out the big risk was we would not be the program that he created, and in 2 short years we look more like USF than the once mighty Shockers.

I will pay the minimum amount I have to for the seats I have now. I will not be paying extra like I have in the past. I will not be buying into the Coaches Club as I have in the past. If the University wants people to support them financially like the past they need to fix what is wrong and get the team back to what we all paid up for the last 10 years.

That makes sense. My love and allegiance to the university runs deeper than athletics, because I grew up around the school, my mom worked there and most of my family attended Wichita State. I do understand your same ties to Friends and realize there are people who support WSU athletics only. I am not sure if there are more people like you or myself who frequent this board and probably made a faulty assumption when I originally posted.

They ain't getting a dime of my money until major changes are made. Won't be attending any games of any kind, and I've already informed them that I will be looking for a new school to further my education. Shame too as WSU has one of the best Sport Management programs in the country but until Muma and Boatwrong are gone I want nothing to do with Wichita State.

What's the going rate for a couple-few 4-stars??? Maybe channel everyones funds into NIL deals instead of the university directly. In other words...how 'bout the local private sector buy a team! Everyone else is doing it.

I mean at least there would be "talent" on the court worth attending games for. Heck maybe even HCIB could make something of it and stop the bleeding (temporarily) until the university can get out of these coaches contracts and hire a splash the next go around.

It probably didn’t help when that woman who was on the Foundation Board, and who went around leaning on people to donate to WSU was accused of embezzling millions from her employers. For the rest of us, if we choose to donate, it’s our own money, not funds that we misappropriated.
