A so-called high major playing in the NIT wouldn't excite me either and finally playing in front of nobody wouldn't exactly make me think they were a big time program.
Maybe so, but they aren't a mid-major program just because they didn't draw anybody for an NIT game against Minnesota.

Maybe or maybe not about the recruits. Maybe that's why they've been to the NIT for how many consecutive years and been NCAA-less just as long. Still has no bearing on whether Miami is a high major or not.

      • Illinois St scored on their possession but it was waved off because the official said the Illinois St player stepped on the baseline. Stanford ball 20 seconds left. Tied game at 78.

        • OT! For some reason Stanford shot a 3 at the buzzer and missed. The game was tied why go for a 3?

          • Carmichael and Wilkins both have 4 fouls for Illinois St. so this could be tough for them in OT.

            • Stanford wins 92-88 in OT.

Personally I do not consider Miami a high major basketball program. They play in a 7000 seat arena that they built in 2003. I can understand playing in a smaller arena if it was old and it had tradition, but building a new one that small wreaks of UNI not Big East basketball. I went through their box scores and it looks like they averaged a little over 3000 a game in their 7000 seat arena. Again that sounds more like a UNI than a basketball power.

To me they are a mid-major program playing in a big time conference. They are a football power no doubt about that but that shouldn't automatically make them a power in basketball too.

                • That is too bad for Illinois St. They lead most of the game. They had a big lead in the second half and blew it. But I think they got homered a little bit from the refs. Those 3 straight offensive calls against Carmichael in a span of less than 2 minutes really changed the game. Then taking the basket away when they said the Illinois St player stepped on the line (by millimeters when he was forced out) really hurt. There were a couple of other calls late in the game and in the OT that seemed questionable.

Oh well they still made a good game of it and almost won anyway.

I get the feeling that you believe that Miami is in the Big East. I feel like your knowledge of "high major basketball" probably stopped in 2003 when that basketball stadium was built ;)

If I were a Miami fan or recruit, I'd be less concerned with the size of the basketball stadium or an NIT game with Minnesota, and more concerned with the NCAA investigation hammer that's pretty well trashed their football team already.

                    • Michigan State scores 18 points in the first half. The third team this year not to reach 20 by halftime. Good defense or poor offense?

                      • Wisconsin is just as bad as we are at end of clock plays, I don't feel so bad.

                          • Something tells me that if we made 14 three's against SU, we would have beat them instead of blow it like UW. But alas, we're on the outside looking in. This sucks.
