Who would you hire?

A more appropriate title for this thread might be "Who Could You Hire". There's going to be a lot of "up and coming" coaches who would look at the WSU job right now and think they could do a lot better at another school. The word of how Marshall's exit was handled will get out and NOBODY is going to want to work for an AD that throws the basketball coach under the bus to save his job.

If IB were terminated tomorrow, which is financially impossible, there would be a long string of applicants. BoatAnchor would choose one that would always "know his place" in the department. IB is the perfect example of that. That's not what successful programs do. Bill Self is on the selection committee when KU hires an AD. Every school that has a successful coach has that coach dominating the athletic director when it come to their program.

I have my own wish list but that's unimportant for now. I want to highlight the complete incompetence on display by the AD and university leadership. Not only did you have a top tier coach that you had to fire because you botched the situation from a PR perspective, but he had multiple assistants that are great coaches that you could have grabbed and didn't. One is working at Wake Forest and the other at Mississippi State.

Doesn’t anybody think the new tax code which disallowed deductions for athletic boosters has hurt schools? Seems like we’ve been ignoring discussing it. FWIW, I do like the standard deduction computation better now than before, but this should be revisited in my opinion.

Bring Marshall back, give him a bump in salary and have him repay part of his buyout money. Use that to get rid of Brown. Restructure athletic department to have Boatright answer to Marshall; he'll be gone in a week.

Or, find something nefarious on Brown, fire him for cause, and bring back Marshall, keeping all of his buyout money, still have Boatright answer to Marshall.

Or, fire Brown, pay him, but have him agree to accept only what he is worth based on this past season, bring back Marshall and have Shaq cleaning the locker room.
