  • How will 2 week lay off affect SHOX

I know they had same layoff last year and did fine....but playing a weak Nebraska team at home in the first round of the NIT is not the same as going on road to a neutral site. After the loss to Ill St I think they will be ready to go next thurs/fri....just like 2006 shox should make S16+.

Ive kind of wondered about this in general for all teams who have a two week break vs one week break. How they comparably do...though unfortunately its probably impossible to determine how that type of break affects people considering most of the tournaments the first weekend involve teams that would have lower seeds and far less likelihood to win anyways.

Well considering that the current team went into Arch Madness with a ton of sickness going around, and we just completed the toughest stretch of games in our Conference. I'd say that I'll lean towards 2 weeks being a blessing, compared to the argument that 2 weeks is too much time off between games. I think the team needed to rest, needed to get their heads on straight, and get focused for the Tournament.

I like the fact that they will have two weeks to get well and rest their legs somewhat. The article in the Eagle today Marshall said the practices were shorter but more intense. Also said they were going to hire three referees to simulate game conditions.

I hate this long layoff. I for one, do not think it does any good. Practice is fine, but you cannot simulate real game speed. I truly wish the MVC changes the dates.

As Kai said, it's beneficial because the Shox need some time to rest and healed. In general, I like the 2 week off. Plenty of time to practice. Work on the fundamentals. Correct some weaknesses.
Imagine this: since there are 2 weeks to practice, GS learns to recognize double team and pass out quickly to the unguarded teammate. In a game, DK learns to shoot mid-range to gain confidence first before shooting long threes, etc...

It's a double edged sword. Sometimes those two weeks off are great for healing up and getting well. But sometimes, if you have a lot of momentum going into the postseason you want to keep that going. Put me in the camp who wants Arch Madness this weekend. A week off is still plenty of time to practice, heal up, and get well.

The answer to the question is that no one, and I include 3G, his staff and his team, has an answer.

It killed the team in 2006. Or SIU in 2007. Or UNI in 2010. Or what a minute..

It has no bearing on anything. The Valley and MANY conferences have 2-week breaks after their conference tourneys and have performed well regardless.

                    ... No really, deuces.

When I was speaking with Coach Jans after the Drake game he seemed to think the team would improve during the layoff. Saying that game speed can't be replicated in practice seems ridiculous, this isn't football.
