Or show some real basketball IQ and throw a pass to halfcourt and call a time out so that you can do a catch and shoot in the front court.
    Good call.

There is absolutely zero collective high IQ basketball coming from this team. It makes you wonder wtf they’re doing in practice besides playing 25 foot HORSE. I mean, seriously, do they ever practice anything situational at all? Nobody knows how to call a timeout. Nobody knows what to do after a game-tying 3 with 5 seconds left. And as you said, nobody knows what to do after a go-ahead bucket with a couple seconds left. This represents a team with little to zero actual coaching going on.

We have virtually zero chance in any close late game situations. Those are the games that are usually won by the “smart” teams. As for last year, I have no explanation as to why we won so many close ones with IB at the helms, other than we were by far the luckiest team in America.
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

    • I am completely positive that had HCIB called a timeout and we lost, all the haters would have developed indisputable logic as to why that was the wrong decision….. or even more likely, just found another key moment where they could point to his failure as a coach.

He’s not Kelvin Sampson. But he has definitely improved. Tyson has improved from the beginning and middle of this season (still not perfect). RC4 has improved, CPJ has improved. Pohto, while not perfect, might be the most talented true freshman big we’ve had in many years. If you can’t admit to all of that, your bias makes any point you try to make moot.

All of the people on here bitching that we deserve better need to grow up. WE DONT DESERVE ****. We are fans of a college basketball program. You don’t play. You don’t sweat. Hell most of you probably don’t even contribute financially in any kind of meaningful way. Many of you sound like the entitled KU fans who drove me to be a Shocker fan in the first place. Spoiled, entitled babies who derive an unhealthy amount of your self worth from the performance of kids who you don’t even know.

I always thought of Shocker fans as a resilient ride or die (y’all have even ruined that term) group of basketball fans who are fans through thick and thin. That doesn’t mean you can’t be critical of the team, but many of you have gone well beyond that.

If you are that pissed, dig deep in the couch cushions and make your intentions known. Bitching non stop on this board doesn’t do anything but make it unreadable for the adults.

I don’t love where the program is but I’m behind the players and coaches and have been impressed with the growth and effort. The criticisms of the handling of the 3G situation and the Muma / DB extension should not stop you from enjoying the growth process, whether you think HCIB should be coach or not.

He wanted to rush down the court with a team that was more excited about celebrating a huge shot than really playing good defense.
Not factually correct. The defense was set, because Houston took their time to inbound the ball. In fact, Tyson had enough time to switch from the front of the press to man2man coverage along our baseline (the same coverage Ricky was supposed to do).

Sometimes plays aren’t that complicated - Letting a wing player go back door with five seconds left is a player mistake not a coaching mistake. Had coach IB utilized a timeout the only difference he could have made was subbing out the player, but said player was having another stellar game so I doubt he makes the change.

What growth!? This team is regressing terribly, and have shown zero signs of any type of improvement. This team is garbage and that starts at the top!

All that said, Memphis is a terrible matchup for us and I'm not sure it will make difference in that game.
            Agree in total.

RCIV showed he is worthy of starter minutes by playing mature basketball. It would be a big plus if he could do that for the remaining games this season. Pleasant came off the bench attacking the glass aggressively. CP's last 17 minutes of play overcame his first 35, when Shead was abusing him. 40 minutes of that could really be a net positive, obviously, the rest of this year and next.

I'll probably get some flak for this, but is CP allergic to hittin' the deck for loose balls? C'mon man! Winning basketball!

I’m going to agree here. I know IB has had his failures, but if we’re being honest, this game against Houston was pretty good. The defense *was* set in the last 5 seconds, but it was unfortunately poor execution at the last of it that ruined us. It’s kind of the tale of this season.

and if we’re being *really* honest, it’s become clear that we have maybe 5-6 viable pieces, and this team as a whole has many black holes. Size, strength, shooting threats outside of Council and Tyson (Porter needs to step up more), dribble penetration, low bbiq overall by way of unforced errors. Many of these things can’t be fixed in a single season. For those claiming it’s all IB’s fault, he is a contributor to where we’re at, but it started with Marshall.

I’m not happy with IB’s performance this season. But he did well in the Houston game, evidenced by several comments even the announcers made.

Where we’re really going to see is what IB plans to do this off season. Who he brings in. I think it’s clear he intends to hit the portal hard, by lack of high school recruits

              • Growth is defined as winning the AAC, making the NCAA Tourny, having AAC COY and MVP, returning both, losing 2 players out of your rotation, and finishing 8th the following season.

                Spectacular.

You can't watch what happened and think they were set. They weren't physically set ... and they damn sure weren't mentally set which is even more important.

Not to excuse it .. but i think the last time he hit the deck for a loose ball was during the K-State game .. where he had to be helped off the floor after. So i'm guessing it's in his head.

                    • Will be curious to see if any of this performance carries over to Memphis. Seems like we have a solid game and follow it up with a bad one.

                      • Should have been a time out, no question. How does a guy dribble down the court and pass the ball unimpeded to a wide open guy under the basket for an easy dunk in 5.2 seconds without a coaching failure?

Yep. When apathy sets in and no one posts anymore at all, that’s when you know the end is near.

Yep, the activity on here during the off-season will be telling.

I’m all for supporting this program but the “Shut up and don’t complain” crowd really grate me the wrong way.

He better crush the portal then.
