#14/15 Houston at Wichita State Game Thread 2-20-22

So proud of our guys today. Fight till the end, that's all any of us can ask.

Loved the change where everyone spread the floor and let Ricky drive and dish.

We really struggled to get the ball inside when Udeze was on the bench, since Kenny is still learning how to play the post at this level.

The coaching staff made a great adjustment by inverting the offense and putting CPJ and Ricky inside.

They also did this on defense some. Nice to see some solid in game adjustments.

There’s nothing to play for now except the conference tournament, but you wouldn’t know it they way our guys fought today. Crowd was tremendous as well. That’s a lot to be proud of. We keep doing those things and this program will be alright.

CPJ scored his fifth and sixth points with less than two mins left in regulation. He went on to score eleven more over the remainder of the game.

He's not FVV, but FVV did that a lot. He wasn't always looking to score but usually found a way to when we needed it most. I do like a more aggressive CP, but I also really like calm and patient CP who is constantly looking to create for others.

TE is valuable as a decoy deep away from the basket one side with
DD on the opposite side. Now play 3 on 3 with KP screening high
and dropping back after CP or RC drives. If they can finish great, if not,
find the open shooter whether it's KP, TE or DD. Reload if there is a
breakdown. I trust any of our shooters and really like RC or CP
dribble driving. Really liked our effort today. KP got some great
experience today. A few more like that and he will be ready next year.
Have been begging for more PT for sometime now. Had he gotten it
earlier the final might have been different today.

Shocks fought hard. Crowd cheered loud. Shocks rebounded with them. Throws kept us in the game. I liked Ricky starting. He more than earned that. Porter is coming on strong. KP played lots of minutes and made good on them. DD hustled like a rock star everywhere. I doubt Houston thought they would face near this much effort to win. Wishing we utilized our last time out. Great Shocker effort.

You can be positive about a loss. I wonder if 3G was ever satisfied with effort in a loss?

But Houston knows how to win. WSU hasn't figured that small component out yet.

IB's inexperience came into full view during the last 5 seconds.
Instead of calling an obvious and much needed timeout, he simply froze.
Period.
There is no other explanation.

Oh and Billy Kennedy needs to return any salary WSU pays and catch the next bus back to the retirement home.
He's useless.

IB was just like one of his players - caught up in the moment of CP's shot instead of continuing to coach the game until the very end.
If anyone needed a defining example of the difference in a legit head coach running the show vs an assistant just learning as he goes...

How long are we going to put up with this. Fire HCIB now, should have never been hired. I can't see any players staying, my quess is they'll all enter the transfer portal.

If KS WANTED to set up a play... He could... He had a Time out too. So that argument doesn't hold water here. KS wanted to go up against a non set WSU defense that was still celebrating partially. It worked

IB should have take a timeout.

Our set defense > fast break defense

I usually disagree with anything IB does, but you 100% do not call timeout there.
