How many times in a row has a team from this state with a No.1 seed fallen short of the Final Four and severely underachieved based on their tournament seeding?

ESPN the magazine has an article on the biggest choke jobs in tournament history. KU makes several appearances. One of them is their quasi-national title thanks to Memphis' Epic choke--KU finally won a championship because they were able to find a team who choked more than they did.

        Bill Self years:

10-11 - 1 seed - Elite Eight (11 VCU, the team a lot of people/media thought shouldn't of got in, lol)
        09-10 - 1 seed - Round 2 (9 Northern Iowa)
        08-09 - 3 seed - Sweet 16 (2 Michigan State)
        07-08 - 1 seed - Champions (beating two 1 seeds)
        06-07 - 1 seed - Elite Eight (2 UCLA)
        05-06 - 4 seed - 1st Round (13 Bradley)
        04-05 - 3 seed - 1st Round (14 Bucknell)
        03-04 - 4 seed - Elite Eight (3 Georgia Tech)

So four number one seeds and "severely" underachieving two times, one of those still resulted in an Elite Eight. Bucknell was an epic choke job, but I don't think Bradley was really that much of an upset.

A well-coached, experienced, good defending, and good 3pt shooting (if they get hot it's over) mid-major team is kryptonite to KU. At this point they'd rather play the Miami Heat then one of those teams in the tourney. Looking back, SIUs defense in 06-07 was some of the best I've ever seen, they were relentless and huge pain in the ***. Wtf happened to that program??
