Taylor Eldridge said it best: At this point, you are what your record says you are & If this team can just shoot at an average/slightly above average level, it can be a quality competitor. Especially at home.
Last night against SMU, they did exactly that. Did the glaring lack of size or problems with particular players disappear? No. But they hit some quality shots, and played some excellent defense. The scoring draught near the end didn’t matter because they were draining threes early on and created a large enough lead that made it very hard for SMU to come back. But if they didn’t hit those shots, things could have gone a different direction.
I don’t want to speculate on an outcome that didn’t happen, but it’s clear to see one thing for certain: WSU at their best can compete against the Arizona’s/SMU’s/Okie State’s of the world. At their worst, they collapse when the shooting/offensive plays aren't clicking and they collapse against Tulane’s of the world.
For me, this season is still probably a wash, unfortunately. I hope I’m wrong. I hope they go out there and spectacularly go on the road and play well, and somehow win the conference tournament. But the real adjustments will be made this offseason. Addressing the glaring issues that need reinforcement through the transfer portal and recruiting will be where the true changes will come.

I honestly applaud those who stayed steadfast in their optimism this entire time. With that said, I think a lot of us are basing our pessimism on reality, not blind hope.
One game COULD be the turning point, it could also just be an aberration.
Again, If you’re sold hook, line, and sinker that the season is now “on track” or “saved”. Good on you…it just isn’t reality though.

You’re right though, we’ll see who was overreacting when the final report card comes in. For the record, I hope we turn it around. With that said, I don’t want this program to become comfortable with mediocrity.

OScar Meyer contacted me, something to do with a donation for Vienna sausage. It will have to wait though, still in use.Last edited by Atxshoxfan; February 7, 2022, 09:32 AM.
