  • Lunardi's "S" Curve Updated on ESPN.com

Lunardi has the Shocks as a #5 seed and 18th overall in his updated "S" curve projection. If the right teams lose in their conference tournament, we still have a chance at a #4 seed.
It is a great day to be a SHOCKER!!!!

The latest is a #4 seed in the East Reg. I would take this regional and matchups right now as Lunardi has it.

Yeah, Im going to honest, that surprised me a lot. Im expecting WSU to have a 5 or 6 and CU to get a 6. 7 seems just a bit low for them. And I feel like there would have to be some other teams that lose (possible) before we get a 4 seed. I dont think Lunardi is ever that good when it comes to seeding though I suppose thats harder to predict compared to who gets in

Lunardi's current S curve has WSU at #16, which means we are the last of the 4 seeds. His S curve has Creighton at #25, which means he has CU as the first of the #7 seeds. So it wouldn't take much change at all to make WSU a 5 seed and CU a 6 seed.

Joe actually mentioned this in his chat today. A BJ fan asked about how he could have WSU higher seeded than BJ. His response was that WSU was the last 4 seed and CU the first 7 seed, so they aren't as far apart as you'd think.

I'm really not surprised. I think we're a 4-5. Anything outside of that would be very odd.

Our loss doesn't hurt us that much, as I think we were a rather large jump ahead of everyone behind us. Just remember how many teams have been losing lately. There is no team that has been projected as being in the 4-6 range that has had a strong finish to the season, really. Most of the teams that could have gone over us with a loss have lost at least one in the last week, some as many as three. There are really no teams surging with a strong final two weeks of the season.

If you look at Lunardi's 5/6 seeds, UNLV was upset by Colorado State, and their road record is pathetic. ND lost two in a row last week, at least one they should have won. Florida lost three in a row following the season-ending injury of a key player, two they should have won. I really don't see Murray State ever getting the respect to have a good seed, given their SOS. Louisville has lost two straight, and four of their last six ... two to Syracuse, but they should have beat USF at home. Gonzaga is on an up-swing, but our resume is still a bit better. Vandy has lost two of their last three. Temple has looked pretty weak down the stretch, and our resume is a bit better still.

If any of those teams closed out the season on a high note (other than Gonzaga), any of them could have jumped us, probably. But everyone behind is hobbling to the finish line. A big tourney run can push us down, but there aren't any teams behind us that are clearly able to jump us in seeding. Especially for a 1 point loss in a game that didn't really matter for us, given our guarantee of an at-large spot.

Considering we were almost never going to get a 3 seed, losing that game really only moved us from a solid 4 seed to a borderline 4 seed.

Maybe because we beat Creighton by 20 in our last game, on their court?

Creighton won't get the respect for beating IllState for the Valley tournament that they would have gotten if they beat us. If they beat us in the finals, they would have jumped up in the rankings and seedings a lot more.

At the end of the day, they beat a 105 RPI team that they were expected to beat. Granted, we didn't, but they still didn't beat a ranked, top 15 RPI WSU team. Winning that tourney means plenty for them in conference smack-talk, but doesn't really translate that high onto the tourney seedings and rankings.
