Which ever seed allows us to do more damage. That's what I'm for.

I love the 2 votes for First Four. With success, there comes the insecurity of outside fans. Love it!

Yes, UK and Syracuse look pretty dang good. However, the difference between facing KU, Mizzou, Duke, Michigan State, UNC and Ohio State is pretty negligible. Two of these teams will wind up as 1 seeds, While the other 4 have a good shot at obtaining a 2 seed. Most of them will continue to bounce in and out of 1 seed status in various projections over the next 2 weeks.

I want the highest seed we can get (at the moment, our ceiling seems to be a 3 seed). Wishing for a 6 seed instead of a 4 or 5 is silly- take the matchup that gives you the best chance of winning one game at a time.
Agreed. Kentucky and Syracuse are fearsome looking. I think the rest of the top teams are vulnerable.

As an FSU fan, we've beaten two potential one seeds in UNC and Duke, and realistically could have beaten Duke again last night if they hadn't shot 54% from the line. And hadn't allowed Duke to shoot 50% from 3. Wichita State has a better basketball team than FSU, although FSU is bigger which keeps Duke on the perimeter. I don't know that the Big 10/12 teams are particularly better than Duke/UNC, so I think the whole crop looks pretty vulnerable. Granted, any of them can get hot come tourney time, and they all certainly have the raw talent to go the whole way. But any bracket without Syracuse or Kentucky in it I'm feeling mildly confident about. They wouldn't be easy games, but they would be winnable.

We deserve a three if we win out (I'd imagine we'd be close to the top 12, after all, and seeded higher than a Murray State). Probably a four with a loss in the finals of Arch. Maybe a five with a semi final loss. Six with losses from Drake and Arch.

2's not possible. Then - 3,6,4,5 in that order.

Being not to smart about this, why is a 6th seed better than a 4 or 5? Thanks.

3 and 6 delay a #1 seed matchup by at least one round

The 4/5 seed are on the same side of the bracket as the 1 seed for a Sweet 16 match up. In other words, a 4 seed has to face the 5 seed then the 1 seed. The 6 seed has to face the 3 seed then the 2 seed. Given that there is a lot of parity outside of the apparent 1 seeds, it may be easier to get to the Elite Eight through the 3/2 seed path than the 5/1 seed path.

Again, what is the difference between facing a 1 seeded Michigan State versus facing a 2 seeded Duke in the Sweet 16? Looks like a wash to me.

As a 6 seed you draw significantly more difficult first round opposition than a 4 seed does. Plus you face the possibility of a home court disadvantage in the Round of 32 game against a 3 seed because you are not "protected." This is pretty big and is being overlooked for some reason.

Additionally, 1 seeds drop their drawers against 8 seeds in the 2nd round approximately every other year.

Worry about getting the matchup that allows us to win the game immediately in front of us.

My perspective on the 6 vs 4/5 question is people are underestimating the relative significance of making a sweet 16 and overestimating the significance of an elite 8. Obviously there is a big increase in importance every time you advance, but I think the jump from 32 to 16 is maybe more important than 16 to 8 in terms of exposure etc.

So I want any path that increases the likelihood of making the sweet 16. Plus if you look historically at odds to elite 8 I would be surprised if 6s faired better than 4/5s.

On a different but related topic I think roughtly 75% of 5s advance, so despite the publicity around always picking at least one 12, you have to like our chances as a 5.

Not much difference there, but the difference between facing a 1 seed Kentucky and a 2 seed Duke is huge! OTOH, I do see the logic in "get the seed that allows the best change of advancing early."

Personally I would just as not see anybody coming out of the play-in games. 3 would be good and I think we have a good chance. Playing a 14 or 15 in the fisrt game would really help break the ice.

i dont want a 5 seed. And I would love a second round matchup with Missouri or Baylor. They are severely overrated....
