Memphis may have the talent to be #3, but they do not have the coach. They might be #3 in the AAC.

College basketball rankings: Memphis lands Emoni Bates and soars into the top 10 of early Top 25 And 1 - CBS Sports
        By Gary Parrish

"Penny Hardaway has the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation after Bates commits to the Tigers

Shortly after Memphis won the NIT and finished 31st at KenPom, four of the top nine players, including two starters, entered the transfer portal, at which point fans started asking an obvious question: Can Penny Hardaway replace what he just lost with newcomers who can keep the Tigers nationally relevant in the 2021-22 season?

The answer is a resounding YES.

Literally no program has overhauled and upgraded its roster so dramatically this offseason — especially in recent weeks. Earlier this month, Memphis secured a commitment from five-star center Jalen Duren — which was enough to launch the Tigers into the CBS Sports Top 25 And 1. That development was followed by even bigger news that came Wednesday — when Emoni Bates, another five-star prospect, announced his decision to also play for Memphis....

        #6 Michigan
        #7 Memphis
        #13 Houston..."

That's an interesting lineup. Put Etienne at PG, which is what he worked on all summer with NBA teams. That leaves Council and Dex at the wings. That's got some potential

It does have potential, but imo, not as a starting five. I think it makes more sense for us to start:

            Porter
            Etienne
            Dennis
            Monzy
            Udeze

Then, depending on context, somewhere between the 16-12 minute mark, switch to:

            Etienne
            Council
            Dennis
            Pleasant
            Udeze

The next squad could be something like:

            Porter
            Ricks
            Council
            Monzy/Pohto/Abbide
            Pleasant/Pohto/Abbide

Then switch more of our top guys in to end the half strong. Maybe something like:

            Porter
            Etienne
            Dennis/Council
            Monzy/Dennis
            Udeze

Those are just loose, general lineup archetypes off the top of my head. But I think, roughly, that looks pretty good.

              Porter
              Etienne
              Dex
              Pleasant
              Udeze

Start with the veterans to get through the jitters at the start of the game. Sub in Council for Porter and Monzy for either Pleasant or Udeze for energy off the bench. Changing the starters positions accordingly of course.

              Etienne
              Dex
              Council
              Monzy
              Udeze

when Etn gets a break, Porter and Grant come in for Dex and Etn. Pohto relieves whichever big didn't sit yet.

              Porter
              Grant
              Council
              Monzy
              Pohto

defensively there might be some questions with the last line up though. Starters come back in to finish the half. Whoever plays well starts the second.

Monzy hasn't shown enough consistency to be a starter, plus I like his energy off the bench. I'm going with Pleasant at the 4. I'm guessing Porter starts the season at PG, as IB seems to be really high on him. TE will get a lot of opportunity to back him up and may move into the starting role as the season progresses in the event Porter isn't getting it done.

Bonus line up - everyone shoots the 3, switches defenders, and drives the basket (haven't seen if Pleasant drives but I would think so against a 5 man at the 3 point line)

                  Etienne
                  Dex
                  Council
                  Monzy

Same old tired song on this board.. Every year guys on shocknet talk smack on Penny. But all he does is dominate the shockers. He leads 3 games to 1. And the last game they pounded our team by 20 on national television. We had nobody that could guard ALO . Now they got an experienced team returning and 5 star recruits coming in. Maybe before we start talking smack we ought to firgure out how to beat them. Go Shocks

And they finished 3rd. Year before, they finished 5th. Both years behind us. I do agree that they have had our number, though.

If the goal of the Memphis team is to win the head to head matchups with the shockers they are certainly in the lead. I suspect that they would rather have overall success and trips to the big tournament. What's it been, 7 years since they were invited?

We missed it once, and had a deep NIT run that year, which featured a total rebuild of players not named McDuffie and Jones, who were backups the year before.

If you think they wouldn't have swapped spots with us any of the years since 2012 you are kidding yourself. Head to head w/l be damned.

It's referenced quite a bit in popped culture. But I suppose I'm not as hip or savvy enough in the world of marijuana. So since you're the expert on the subject, why don't you correct my phrasing into the proper, less corny way?
