  • Some Thoughts From the Game in North Carolina

*Davidson has a very lovely campus. Lots of well-landscaped trees and quads and many newer buildings. You can tell that there is some serious money behind this institution. If you have a high-school aged child who tests well and prefers smaller, private schools then I would imagine this would be a nice place for him/her to spend four years.

*LOTS of Shocker fans in attendance. It was hard to have a good idea of the number who made the trip because most of us were scattered, but I would guess somewhere around 300 total. Everyone I saw cheered hard for the Shockers and did so in a very classy manner.

*The Wildcat fans were generally very polite and hospitable. I ate in a soda shop with a friend (Davidson grad) before the game and caught a little bit of their baseball game afterward. Got a lot of congratulations after the game and some questions about the baseball Shox at the diamond. Good people all around.

*They have a very impressive student section. It is separated into two "sections"- one behind a goal and one behind the opposing team's bench. I would guess that the combined total was roughly half of the typical WSU student attendance. Pretty good considering they have about 1,900 students compared to our 15,000. They are also well-organized, loud, and have several chants. We really took them out of it in the second half, but they were pretty into it for the first twenty minutes.

*Garrett obviously struggled pretty badly. In fact, it may have been his worst game of 2012. Many of the DC fans around me felt like this was the key to victory for the Wildcats. They were absolutely stunned, however, with how quick and physical our guards are and with how Ragland and Murray turned the game from a nailbiter into a laugher during a 7 minute stretch in the 2nd half. Several of them commented that they thought we compare favorably to Duke.

*Jake Cohen played the game of his life and everyone there knew it. Guy was incredibly effective until Carl finally put the clamps on him late in the second half. The game may have been very different if he and Brooks had stayed out of foul trouble. Credit to our big men for forcing the issue and knocking them out with whistles early.

*I enjoyed meeting a few Shocker fans from far-flung locations today, including West Virginia, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Georgia. Seasons like this really seem to bring the alumni together.

    Nice report.

I thought their students were much louder than our students, but the size of their gym may have made it seem that way.

      Their rim was louder, too.

The clang from that thing is still reverberating in my ears.

I swear I thought a few bolts were just going to fall out of that thing and it would just flop down to the floor.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.
