Anyone have any inside information about a guy WSU is recruiting out of Illinois. A caller questioned Greg Marshall about it on tonight's radio show but he could not comment yet.

Unless I misunderstood when I was listening to the show, the Illinois recruit was Fred VanVleet who we've already signed. At least that's who Coarch Marshall started talking about when Mike Kennedy reminded him that the caller also wanted to know about an Illinois recruit.

Loved Kennedy's comments about a certain coach from just north of us who was upset at his assistant's for not pursuing FVV. I assume he was talking about Bill Self. Said the coach made a personal call to FVV, but it was too late. He was coming to WSU..

I thought once the player commits, it is prohibited from other schools to continue contact? Is that wrong?

I did not hear exactly what was said, and I'm not exactly sure on the rule, but I believe that any coach can contact any player if the committment is only verbal. I think this type of contact is usually, "Sorry you decided not to be a Jayhawk, but good luck with your career as a Shocker." That was likely not the conversation that FVV had with the coach from the northern school.

Not true, KC. It's widely frowned upon, but there's no rule, just an unwritten code that's applied in some places but not others. In fact, in football it happens quite a bit. (For example, Urban Meyer recently took heat from some of his new Big 10+ colleagues for doing exactly that at Ohio State. It was criticized as SEC-style recruiting, but probably not too much by Buckeye fans tired of seeing the crystal football head south every year.)

I like the Self story way better! Nothing like sticking it to the "man" I can only imagine what Self was saying about us when recruiting Perry.
