Who would have thought this was possible... happy for the players and HCIB. Really couldn’t ask for more from this group. Shot the 3 good until we forced the last 4 or 5. Loved the development of Udeze, without his improvement I doubt we would have had this sort of season. DD really has come on offensively over the last 7-8 games. Gilbert really plugged the hole at point and Wade has really been pretty consistent over the last month. Job well done Shocks!

Congratulations to Coach IB, staff, and players and all other staff that helped this team win a championship when nobody gave them a chance at the beginning of the season. So proud of WSU. So proud of Wichita.
Now the bad, I said it the last time we played USF. When we play them we get cheated by the refs. They cheated us in Tampa. You guys know I am right. They beat the sht out our players today and no calls were made. That white referee with the ball head is a piece of garbage. He did the entire game and I bet he did not make one call where he called USF for a foul. And there were so many obvious fouls. I about lost it when they threw Tre Wade out of bounds and he just looks. Fuk him and the horse that he came in. Stay fuk out my city you scumbag. Go Shocks.

But in a crazy year where winning a T7 conference outright doesn’t have you firmly in a dance, ending a game where your winning by almost 30 by 17 hurts when you need all the NET help you can get.Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

Congratulations Shockers.
I was out out of the country a lot in the 1960's, 70's, and 80's, but I am pretty sure I am right in saying that we never did win Missouri Valley Conference when Houston, Memphis, Cincinnati, and Tulsa were all in it.
Different decades, and even centuries, but still, this is in many ways a most significant achievement.
Now lets win the Damn Tournament, or is that Tournaments.?

The Shockers won back-to-back MVC Championships in 1963-64 and 1964-65 when the "Valley of Death" included (I think) Louisville, Cincinnati, Tulsa, Drake, Bradley, St. Louis and North Texas. Keep in mind the Drake and Bradley of those days was a different animal than their more modern descendants. The Shocks first MVC Championship in school history was in 1963-64 in the days when only conference champions (and a few independents) played in the 25-team NCAA Tournament field. They tied Drake for the title and defeated the Bulldogs in a playoff at Allen Fieldhouse to win the NCAA berth. A game that I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to attend as a 13 year old at a time when I did not get to go to many games. The Shocks won that game to secure the programs first ever NCAA Tournament berth. Some guy named Dave Stallworth was on those teams and a handful of other pretty decent teams as well..
Cincinnati was just coming off a fantastic run. The Bearcats were in the Final Four in 1959 and 1960 finishing 3rd (in those days they had a consolation game between the losers of the semifinals), the won the National Championship in 1961 and 1962 and lost in the National Championship game in 1963 to Loyola-Chicago who was led by Jerry Harkness. Both Cincy and Loyola on lost 2 games that year. Loyola lost to Bowling Green and Wichita State in the regular season and Cincinnati lost to the Shockers in the regular season 65-64 behind 46 points from Dave The Rave including the final 7 points of the game to erase a 6 point deficit and break Cincinnati's 37 game winning streak and did not lose again until they lost to Loyola in the Championship game. The next year the Shock finally made their first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
This is in no way to diminish what this year's team accomplished. Whether it was more significant than the schools first two MVC Championships and NCAA Tournament berths in the Valley of Death days is open to debate.
In fact, Paul Suellentrop just published an article today ranking all of the Shockers' 12 MVC/AAC Championships. He ranks the two years discussed above at No. 1 and No. 2. He ranks this years AAC Championship as No. 6 on his list. Not that Paul is the final say on the subject. I think this year's team had to deal with and overcome a lot of challenges no other Shocker team had to deal with and that makes this year's team very special.
Here is the link to Paul's rankings of Shocker men's basketball championships in the MVC and now the AAC: https://goshockers.com/news/2021/3/6...vc-to-aac.aspx

Watched the replay of the Shockers AAC clincher today. I really thought Trey Wade played very hard today and really went to battle with USF's cadre of big men, and thay are truly big men.
Trey tied USF's 7 foot center Michael Durr for game high rebounding honors with 9. Trey is not a big man at all for his postion by today's standards.
Add 8 points on 4-7 shooting and I'll take that from Trey every day of the week.
Alterique seems like he has been playing more consistently lately. He had another solid game.
Kudos to these to seniors who may or may not be back next year. And a big thank you to the two senior walk ons, Jacob Herrs and Bryson Bush. Takes some perservernce to be a teams punching bag for 4 years when you know playing time will be minimal and when you probably could have played at a lower level. I think these guys are more valuable to a team then they generally get credit for .Last edited by 1972Shocker; March 7, 2021, 02:59 PM.

It felt way different being at the game today. I had this totally relaxed, calm feeling from the get go. As 1972Shocker said, Trey Wade was fantastic.
Those kids played so hard. They COMPETE. Mo was good, Trey was great, Gilbert and Tyson were terrific, Dex was all conference good, and we got enough from the bench to keep the guys fresh.
None of these kids and coaches asked for this mess, yet they came together and won a championship and that never gets taken away.
I don't think I've seen Dex this content, and it absolutely makes a difference.
Can't thank Trey and Alterique enough. What they've accomplished.....it's crazy.
No parents in attendance upset me, but I enjoyed the family video tributes. Runner up to Big Bush for Lil Bush. Touching. Home run by Trey's parents. Can't imagine their tribute being more perfect. Very, very well done.
Special day. Congrats to everyone!
