  • Pat Forde says Shox to lose versus Creighton

    Creighton-Wichita State (10).
When: Saturday. Where: Qwest Center, Omaha.
Why it matters: These teams are tied for first in the Missouri Valley Conference. Both have strong at-large résumés for the NCAAs, but every quality win matters and removes pressure to win the league tournament.
Who wins: Creighton 65, Wichita State 63. The Bluejays rallied from a nine-point, second-half deficit to beat the Shockers in Wichita on New Year’s Eve despite star Doug McDermott scoring only 12 points. But Shockers 7-footer Garrett Stutz has been a different player since that game and will be a handful in the middle.

Well, now I've lost all respect for Pat Forde; what the heck does he know?! <--joke

I think it's clear that both teams will be preparing for a war, but we have business to attend to first.

He's really going conservative with these "predictions". It's like he doesn't want to make anyone mad so he just says good things about both teams, then predicts a 1 possession game, which basically means, "Anyone can win this, but since this is yahoo I'm writing this article, I'm going to make a half-hearted prediction."

I'm surprised he's predicting such a close game. The conventional wisdom certainly has to favor Creighton: they're playing at home; they won here; they're coming off an unusual losing streak already; it's a must-win game for them (although it could take on greater urgency for the Shocks if they stumble tonight, too).

I'll be pleasantly surprised if the Shocks win, but not shocked the way Stutz has been asserting himself lately. But as we read above quite correctly, there's business to attend to tonight before anyone even thinks about Creighton. And tonight is likely to be a tough test in its own right.

Pefrect prediction and makes a Shocker win all the more impressive - provided we beat UNI tonight...

Is the Shocker game in Omaha going to be on the Internet?

I'm guessing he didn't see this one coming. (Although in fairness, which of us did?)

Of course, hitting half of your threes tends to make you look pretty good, but the Shocks have shown the ability to miss lots of open threes at times this year, too. They're 20 of 35 from three the last two games, and that isn't likely to last. So I'm glad they recently showed the ability to win without them, as in their comeback victory over Indiana State. The other thing that was nice about the win at Omaha was the way the Shocks reasserted themselves on the boards, even without Stutz -- that was big-time encouraging.
