The link allows you to sign a petition to the athletic department - I am open to suggestions or comments, but based on all the posts and my evaluation of the game experience decline I worte this:

Why This Is Important

Charles Koch Arena has a nationally recognized game experience. The home court advantage has been obvious and the energy levels experienced by our team and fans have been tremendous. Many of the current fans now feel the reputation is under assault due the continued increase in commercial activities and poor game production management. The fan, band, and most importantly the team energy is often interrupted to hear the latest 3 point shot sponsor or the newest catch a ping pong ball sponsor. Singers of the petition are requesting the following changes:
1) Stop playing long videos at the beginning of the game. Keep it short and sweet or stop it all together
2) Stop sponsoring player accomplishments (dunks/3 point shots made)
3) Allow the band to own an entire time-out without interruption - especially time-outs the other coaches call in an attempt to calm the game
4) Listen to the fans - I know these items have been brought to the attention by many fans ignored

The problem with that is that you need to include ways to reduce spending to offset the lost revenues. I realize there are disturbing effects from D1 basketball becoming a business instead of purely an entertainment venue. Ask the team what they'd rather have - a more energized crowd and bus rides Terre Haute or a less enthusiastic crowd and chartered flights.

I enjoy me some negativity. I don't enjoy reading about the same problem in multiple threads for an entire season, no matter how bad it is. Just a personal preference of mine. I'm not going to hinder the poopoo parties people like to have, just felt like needing to air my sadness about the constant complaints about the entertainment and production at games.

If you guys really want to make a difference, do like people against SOPA, PIPA, or the people who are for legalizing online gambling. Someone needs to write a form letter, that all you have to do is change the person who is sending it, and email it directly to Eric Sexton, the marketing department, Marshall's secretary, every single person who could possibly change something.

P.S. if someone does want to write a form letter, please let it be someone who has a grasp of writing a professional letter, and it not be like some of the childish rants that go on here that just berate the AD.

I actually agree with you 100%; therefore, I was trying to come up with a simple way to express the overall frustration in mass to the department. The idea may not be great, but I figured it would give "one" outlet for everyone. Maybe enough people "sign" the petition and it becomes a meaingful effort that isn't "beating the dead horse."


I think there might be other ways to generate revenue. I would guess the sponsors want a positive association from their spend, I don't know that they are getting their money's worth based on the feedback here.

I agree totally with proshox. I run a marketing co. and we know the value of game sponsored events such as the Ashley "free throw" and such. But when we are in the last five minutes of the game and it's a small point spread you turn it over to the cheerleaders and make them actually cheer or let the band be more involved which much of that has been taken away form them already so we can hear the latest hip-hop c__p! It totally sucks the life out of the game and atmosphere!

Personally, I refuse to spend money on any of the crappy sponsored ads/events that go on. I'm just waiting for next year when every assist, rebound and blocked shot is sponsored as well. Maybe opponents turnovers and steals. That'll get the crowd pumped. Then if they raise the price of attendance while pimping themselves out to every **** company in the area, I'll stop spending my money on games as well and just enjoy the radio broadcasts.
