  • Stutz ranks #3 in espn Valley Player Efficiency Rating, McD #1 in Valley

Espn ranks players in each conference and nationally using their Player Efficiency Rating. Player Efficiency Rating is the overall rating of a player's per-minute statistical production.

Cu's McDermott leads the Valley with PER of 34.29 (which is also third nationally). J. Carmichael of Illinois St is second in the Valley at 27.02 and Garret Stutz of WSU ranks third at 25.81. Carl Hall is the next highest Shocker at #8 (23.29) and Joe Ragland is #11 (22.57).

The system takes into account Assist Ratio, Turnover Ratio, Usage Rate, Rebound Rate as well as Offensive Rebound Rate and Defensive Rebound rate. The resulting PER shows how productive a player is in relation to other players. The league average PER is 15.

Here is a list of the top 89 players in the Valley using this system: http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/holli...ics/_/group/18

Opps I just realized this is probably espn insider information. I think the link will only work if you are an espn insider.

For Comparison, prouty for WSU has Ragland, Stutz, Murry, Kyles and Hall; the +/- has, among the regulars, Hall, Ragland, Smith, Kyles and Murry.

I'm not an ESPN insider, but from your description it sounds as though PER isn't able to capture defensive impact, which is not surprising inasmuch as college defense is often a team function (i.e., zone rather than man) that's hard to quantify.

Stutz has moved up to second place behind McD in the latest espn PER ratings.

McD has a PER rating of 32.87, Stutz is second at 27.07. The other Shockers rated in the top 15 are: Carl Hall #9 (22.12), Joe Ragland #12 (21.87) and Toure Murray improves to #15 (20.44)

BTW- Last year's Valley Player of the Year Kyle Weems is at #13 (21.34). So 3 Shockers rate ahead of him and one more is hot on his tail.

Nitpicking, but I'm amazed that after 4 years, the number of posters that still can't spell Toure's last name correctly.

Mr. Stutz has come a very long way since the summer he first got here. That summer, I witnessed Paul Miller in a scrimmage skin Mr. Stutz alive. Many of us wished he could have red-shirted his first Season but he was needed on the front lines immediatly. Mr. Stutz just does what the team needs. Last Season, he had some big games off the bench for us but accepted his role as always. This Season, he is one of our regular go-to players and has really found his niche. Let's hope he gets healthy and I believe his best is yet to come. He won't be the MVP in the Valley but he will be amongst them and will be very key to the extent of our success.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

He just spells it differently than we do.
