did that game yesterday kill our rpi and sos.

sos moved from 21 to 49
rpi moved from 28 to 35

thankfully only two more rpi killers on the schedule, with currently six more opportunities for top 75 games..

    just win!

Creighton's win at Bradley (BU fought them down to the wire, down by 5 in the last couple of minutes, although that doesn't matter to the rpi) dropped their rpi from 19 to 28 while UNI's rpi improved slightly to 22 after beating the Drake.

The Drake's loss also dropped them out of the top 100, they are now at 109 but Illinois State's buzzer beating win moves them up to 101.

Missouri State's road win at Indy State also moves them closer to the top 50, as they move up to 58. Indy State meanwhile barely hangs in the top 100 at 93.

Thanks to them (SIU) tanking and underachieving in their non-conference games (they were short handed due to disciplinary reasons and injuries).

Scheduled a chicago state is one....scheduling and entire non-con of them...and then losing is where it gets really bad.

So just about all our noncon teams lost? There's your explanation for the drop in RPI and SOS

All the shockers can do is win games they play. All the rest they cannot control

Ill State is now 102 in realtime RPI. Even with a loss at WSU, I think it is possible they will inch into the top 100.

If Colorado wins their next two (at Cal #52 and at Stanford #74) they might get into the top 50.

I don't think any of our other non-con opponents will get into the top 100 unless they really, really get on a roll.

                        UAB #196
                        Tulsa #171
                        Utah State #155

Before the game the Shocks' RPI was .612x, now it's .602x (all numbers from Warren Nolan).

In the RPI, .01 is a big difference, especially as you start to move down a bit in the rankings. For example, as I type this North Carolina is .6292 and ranks 15th; Temple is .6192 and 25th. So in a sense, WSU did well only to drop seven places in the rankings.

Playing SIU in Wichita may be even worse, because even if the Shocks have learned their lesson from last year and take care of business, they won't get the road bonus for winning. Luckily, as others have noted, that's one of only two really bad games on the remaining schedule, at least for now (Bradley ranks 214th; no one else is outside the top 150, although Evansville is right on the brink, and to find anyone else, you have to look up to Drake at 109th and Illinois State, which has risen to 101st).

So if the Shocks avoid home losses and the big RPI penalty they bring, this year the Valley will actually be reasonably helpful to their RPI -- and it's about time! We've already seen how quickly WSU's RPI bounced back from playing Chicago St., and it will happen again if the Shocks just do their job.

WSU's conference schedule is heavily weighted toward the end of the year. Just look at the last 6 or 7 games! (Very tough) If the RPI is even remotely decent entering February, there will be plenty of opportunity to make it stellar by the beginning of March.

That tough back-ended schedule makes it even more important that the Shocks keep their nose clean until then and win their biggest game in January at UNI. That should cement their BB matchup against the best of the Home teams. Otherwise, they could open themselves up to playing a Home team 30 RPI spots lower which would still be a tough win, but a more damaging loss.
