That reminds me...I took a flight home from Las Vegas on 11/11 a couple weeks ago where I stayed at the Orleans Hotel where the Shockers will be playing next month on the 22nd (11+11=22) and where I bought my Las Vegas Shocker game ticket. lol :D

This is getting a little gosh-dang-ridiculous. I was so excited when I bought my Vegas Tourney ticket because I was unbelievably lucky enough to score center court 3rd row. Not sure what my seat number was gonna be cuz I didn't care...just give me 3rd row center baby! So I look tonight and well anyways...do I really need to tell you what seat number I got? Goodness gracious.... lol :good:

Okay, here we go.

The first time WSU was ever ranked in the AP Poll came in the 1953-1954 season.
Can you guess what number ranking WSU received? ;-)

By the way...that weeks poll back in 1954 came out on Jan. 12.
That's just 1 day after 1/11 to you and me.

Although that was WSU's first ever ranking, there was a tie at # 11 if you can imagine that. That's right there were two # 11's. Guess who was the other # 11?

I'll spell it backwards for ya.

Anyways...WSU was also ranked the next consecutive week at # 11 and NOT tied with anybody. So you could say we were 11 and 11 for two weeks. ;-) (Note: The third week WSU was in the poll we fell to # 16)


Moving on...

The last (and only) time Wichita St. has ever been ranked # 1 in the A.P. Poll came in 1964.

Even though he left WSU nine months earlier, that great '64-'65 team was built by WSU's All-Time Winningest Coach R-A-L-P-H M-I-L-L-E-R (11 letters). ;-)

And you know... D-A-V-E T-H-E R-A-V-E was the man on that # 1 ranked team! :D

That season...UCLA beat Wichita St. in the '65 F-I-N-A-L F-O-U-R in route to winning the National Championship.

It's kinda ironic that UCLA even comes up in this discussion. Why is it ironic?
Well I suppose it's because FOUR decades ago when WSU was one time ranked # 1 earlier in that season WSU played UCLA (who has FOUR letters in their name by the way) in the Final FOUR. So there's a little history there.

Besides 11 - FOUR is 7, and you just know 7 is "the" luckiest number in all the universe!

In fact, the last time WSU was ranked lucky # 7 (1964)...take a guess who the # 1 team was at the time? That's right...UCLA.

Flash forward to right now. As of today, the latest AP Poll has UCLA currently at # 1

Can you guess how many years ago UCLA was last ranked # 1 in the country?

AZ Shocker, why are you bringing up UCLA stuff?

Well like I mentioned earlier...there is some Final Four history between the two schools. Also, keep in mind that the only season WSU ever received a # 1 ranking was the season WSU went to a Final Four where WSU did play UCLA who is currently #1 for the first time in 11 years.

On top of all that...keep this in mind.

UCLA is currently the # 1 team in the nation. The Shockers are # 10.
