  • The Monday after the Meltdown...

Lutz is blasting Marshall over on the Eagle website... I'm not sure I agree with this all the way. Besides stress in practice that they need to be more creative in crunch time (which for some reason they never have gotten more creative and seem to always panic and resort to shooting 3's) OR benching one of the seniors and praying that a freshmen can light Creighton up he doesn't have a lot of options with this squad. It just kind of seems like Lutz is pointing fingers in the aftermath of the meltdown. Yes, it was a meltdown on behalf of the seniors and marshall was very frustrated with all of it. But Creighton did what Creighton is supposed to do. They are WSU's nemesis. Your nemesis is always going to try extremely hard to beat you.... I have a observation for Mr. Lutz that I think better serves who to point the finger at. WSU to this day, after 10 years of Valley wars with Creighton still does not admit Creighton is their chief rival. They try to brush it off and ignore it like a play ground feud. So why does WSU not take Creighton as seriously as they should? How many rivals does WSU have? From what i've seen since i started following WSU basketball, WSU makes it a point to beat Tulsa and LSU when they get a chance to play them cuse of hard feelings from the 80's... While all this is going on, they relish over sharing the state with KU and KSU.. So that makes 4 teams WSU really sets their sights on. They shun the Valley and do not take it serious enough. This is why meltdowns like Saturday happen and why we lost to MSU twice last season.

You're not paying very close attention. I think I speak for the entirety of Shocker Nation when I say that if Wichita State could only win ONE game every year and it were up to me which game we win, I would choose Creighton every single year. Creighton is absolutely our chief rival and no one here is making a case for anyone else, except maybe Missouri State. Tulsa left the Valley a loooooong time ago. When it comes to Creighton, Tulsa has become an afterthought.

Wichita State swept Creighton last year. You don't ususally beat a rival three times straight. It goes back and forth.

Lutz is a KU homer, WSU hater anyway.

Lutz is no KU homer. He is just a cantankerous fella that thrives on controversy, real or perceived. The only team he likes is the St. Louis Cardinals.

Lutz is also no basketball expert, if that's what you're looking for read Suellentrop. I always read Bob as an average sports fan's reaction.

This! Even though he hides it very well, he is actually a WSU grad.

Well of course this Eagle sports columnist is a KU homer, just like the previous Eagle sports columnist was (didn't Randy Brown precede Lutz?). 1 and 1a. Peas in a pod.

I too am searching for this "blasting" reference. There was no "Sports Daily" today, and I can't find anything online. Was there a chat today, or even better, some kind of link to the "blasting" in question?

Yea those pastings that LSU gave us back in the 80's still really have me hot!

I am glad to see that you are up on your Shocker history.

His weekend post is still on the front page of the sports online site. I'm guessing that's what bleed yellow saw.

Lutz gets paid to be extreme whether it is stroking a team/player/coach or ripping into them. He either needs to totally preach to the choir or totally piss off the choir. That's his job or at the very least, that's how he sees his job. Really has nothing to do with knowledge about the subject matter.

He is St Louis Cardinals first and foremost. Then he is for any front runner. He was a Heat fan last year and last year only. He usually picks what ever team is supposed to win. He isn't a KU homer. He doesn't embrace WSU because he feels he needs to keep "journalistic integrity" Which doesn't seem to keep him from bashing the KC Royals any chance he gets on his radio show. He is afraid of being called a homer for any local sports team. Or course, if he spent as much time prepping for the sports segment of his show as he does prepping for the bump music, Sports Daily would be much improved.
