  • WSU's MBB Budget

Financial support of D1 MBB is a major determinant regards the quality of a given university’s team and the conference in which they compete. Clearly the failure of MVC members to adequately support their teams played a role in WSU move to the AAC.

Currently WSU budgets $8,182,863 to fund MBB which ranks 3rd in the AAC (excluding UGone) trailing Houston ($9,219,796) and Memphis ($8,217,757). Average AAC school budget is $6,544,750, while the mean budget is $6,487,460.

WSU’s budget ranks 60th of all schools sponsoring a D1 MBB program. For information and comparison purposes the budget for Gonzaga and the mean budgets for the P6 MBB schools are -

    Zags $10,496,251

    Big 12 $10,435,649

    ACC $10,295,048

    SEC $9,707,167

    B1G $9,392,628

    Big E $9,325,902 (including UGone)

    PAC12 $7,801,293

In the doldrums of the offseason, we pivoted off the basketball court to open up the accounting ledger. Using the most recent Department of Higher Education numbers, here’s a quick look at each team’s spending situation.

Those Zag's numbers make no sense considering the conference they are in.

But probably is a contributing factor to their continued success at the top of the conference as well as the national rankings.

How much does the regional cost of living impact these budget numbers? Washington State index is 110.7 compared to Kansas 89.

Looking at Pac-12, maybe not as much as an influence as I first thought

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."
