Big Little Ben (or is it Little Big Ben) had one of the smoothest, quietest 22 point scoring efforts you will ever see. Just outstanding and I thought Ben was great in his post-game interview as well.

Unfortunately, Tekele followed that up with an airball on a wide open trey attempt. Although it is possible that he was still suffering from oxygen deprivation from his dunk play.

Some here have claimed in the past that a win over a bad RPI team cannot actually lower your RPI. Instead, they have said it simply helps less (if at all) than a win over a non-300+ RPI team would.
I get called-out for pointing out that the shat at the bottom of the league is dragging down the real teams. These teams dope your SoS and drag the RPI - I have no doubt.

How in the world did this team put up 95 points on DePaul. Coach Purnell was upset with his team's defensive effort already. Tonight's score may really get him steamed at his Blue Demons.
I'm not sure why Chicago State continues to try, very unsucsessfully, to maintain a D-1 presence. As far as I can tell they are pretty bad in most sports they sponsor. Wouldn't they be much better off dropping down to D-II. They could probably still get the occassional D-1 payday for agreeing to be tarred and feathered occassionally. I have to believe it is only a matter of time before they move to D-II status.

Seeing the new guys getting more playing time, seeing Evan W hit a couple of nice 3s and seeing some nice dunks made this game worth going to.
I believe that all teams need a few games like this a year to break up the intense pressure that we have for most games. The Shocks had a great week last week going 3-0 against UNLV, at Tulsa and Utah State.
These games against Chicago St and Newman are a nice break during finals week and before we begin the Valley grind.

Great post, Goshockers. The problem is that 50% of RPI is your opponent's record, and when the opponent's percentage is .000 (in ten games, no less), it's just a lead weight. Unfortunately, the Shocks had a contract to fulfill with Chicago State and no one came along to make it worth their while to buy it out. I agree 1000% that Newman was a great alternative to such RPI debacles, and I hope we see more such intelligent scheduling in the future. Only once a year, though; the instant RPI downgrade is just too tough to handle.

From GoShockers
The win tonight gave Wichita State Head Coach Gregg Marshall his 90th win at WSU and his 284th overall. When the Shockers score 80 or more points under Marshall they are 74-3.
