If the team is not running the plays properly, it's the coaching staff's responsibility to get them to do it.
If the team does not know how to runs the plays, same answer.
If it's the plays that are just not working, it's on the coach and staff.
Last, but not least, if it's the level/quality of players recruited, that, too, is on the coach.
I do not believe we have a team of stupid players, quite the opposite. As a team full of first and second year D-I players, they are going to be "behind the curve" to better experienced teams who are equally or better talented and we will have to rely more on our talent. That doesn't always get it done against better teams (to my knowledge, we have not lost to a Q3 or Q4 team). This young team has lost 3 of its league games by only a total of 7 points, all against teams in the top 3. Had we won them, we'd be in 1st all by ourselves. All other losses were road/neutral games. Not really bad for such an unexperienced team. So, I don't believe 1 or 2 above. Also, given what I've said in this paragraph, I don't believe it's #4 either.
It's been said that we shoot poorly. I don't disagree. But it's also been said we take poor shots, many times late in the position. Some of that, if not most, may come from the plays being run and whether those plays are generating quality shots. It's also been said that we are to predictable with our sets. Again, I can't lay a lot of this on younger, less experienced players.
I'm not buying blaming this season on the players, or certain players. Yes, there has been more trials and tribulations than I'd like to see. However, even with that, we have done equal to or better, with 1 regular season game left, of what 62% of Shockernetters thought we'd finish for the year and possibly within 2 wins or less of what 96% thought we'd do.
Am I disappointed. Sure. We were so close to an extremely successful regular season. But that is no reason to go off the deep end and blame several freshmen and/or sophomores and hope for another re-build. How crazy is that?!? We could have enough problems just trying to replace JE for next year, much more adding another group of freshmen.
