2012 Bracket Busters Projections

The Omaha paper had an article in Thursday's paper on the BallBusters and it doesn't sound good for WSU (although they don't discuss our game directly).

Here are some excerpts from the article:

Elgin, one of BracketBusters' founding fathers, said some fans have the misconception that the event will match up the home team with the highest RPI against the highest-ranked visiting team.

"Having a high RPI earns you the right to play your best counterparts, but it doesn't guarantee the top home team will play the top road team," Elgin said Thursday. "ESPN makes that call."

....Elgin said he's hearing that a Creighton-St. Mary's matchup is being considered but that the network is also intrigued by a St. Mary's-Murray State game. If ESPN picks the latter, then Creighton's opponent likely would be Long Beach State....."

If CU does get Long Beach and Murry gets St. Mary's, that pretty much leaves us with either Iona or ORU.

Murry still ends up okay in this scenerio but CU and WSU get screwed if this happens.

BTW- No mention of Nevada in the article.

I have a bad feeling that after tonight's results, ESPN is going to send SMC to Murray State, LBSU to Creighton, and the Shockers to Iona/ORU.

Hope I'm wrong.

Just woke up after having nightmares of that damn Drake Bulldog Spike chasing me all night. Man do "I hate the Drake" now. Well, we will get them at our place in a few weeks for Senior Night.

At this point I just hope it isn't Iona. Afraid it might be. Although if they do look at region at all then MAYBE we have a shot at Oral Roberts.

Everybody think positive and think Murray State. It would be an unbelievable game to watch. Say what you will but these shocks are tough! I wouldn't want to be Missouri State on Wednesday night and I don't care if the game was being played in Paul Lusk's living room with his wife officiating.

No reason to hate Drake. There's 2 ways a team and coaching staff does not win a game. They play and coach their best and get beat by a better team that night or they don't play or coach very well and lose. Drake did not beat the Shockers....the Shockers beat themselves. That's not a knock on the Shocks or staff as both ways of losing happens to all teams.

I posted my final projections on The MVC Report this morning. I'm holding out hope for a Murray State matchup, but Iona and Oral Roberts would be better bets at this point. Personally, I see more value in a game with ORU if you look at their resumes.

In case the Shockers get paired with Iona, we absolutely need them to win. Also, a win by Indiana State over Evansville will at least put them in the discussion for a ESPN Bracketbuster TV game.

If WSU does not get Murray State I hope we get ORU. A good regional match-up is much easier on the players that are fighting to stay in the race for an MVC Championship. A long road trip is not in the program's interest from a money or timing stand point. Murray state is the only road game that offers the right risk - reward equation.

Yes. Espn usually makes the final decisions on Sunday, and some of them always leak out.

I originally had Iona as part of my worst case scenario, then I realized it was supposed to be my worst case selections so I switched them with Sacramento State. I think that would be "more worser".
