Wichita State vs Temple Game Thread

Hope we play better defense on the dribble drive to the basket at SMU as compared tonight against Temple. I remember some claiming that when DD arrived that he plays just as tough defense as Tekel Cotton . That is a ridiculous statement. There is no way guys drive to the basket against Tekel the way they do against DD. I am not trying to put DD down but he needs to improve on stopping those drives to the cup.

Never fear, Wade, JE, and Burton were here. Several lead changes again. A typical Shocker verses Owl game. NO sweeping for the Owls. DD held Rose to a mild roar. Wade was hot the first half along with NF giving us a boost of energy. In the 2nd half, we get a 7 point lead followed by their 14-3 run, followed by a big Shocker run with Burton leading the way, making big throws and clutch shots and 6 assists. 21 pts and 7 board for Wade was huge. Ech. gets another double/double with 14 pts and 13 boards. The Shocks did have 2 more turnovers than Temple but 12 more assists. Again we gave Temple 13 more throws but the Shocks shot the rock so much better tonight which offset that some with 3 more blocks.

Whew!!! We needed that win and just made plays at the end when we had to this time. The pass D. Gordon passed to Marshall left a look on 3G's face that was priceless. Happy Birthday Coach Marshall!!!!!!!!!!!

Late to the game had to DVR it, so I'm sure smarter posters than me have already said a lot of this.

1. We have to be in the top 25 in the county in And 1 fouls. We gave them 5? I wish we would either give them the basket or knock them to the floor.

2. All the rumors about GS must be 100% true.

3. ES, horrible shot selection again.

4. So many unforced turnovers.

...and.....the guy almost made that 3-point heave. Watch it again if you can. Just a few inches short. Man that would've sucked.

1. As good a game as TW had Dahl thought JB and ES were the key guys to the win
2. MU and DG didn't help the cause

4. JB had some bade moments but ended strong. He is a player.
5. I know DD plays good D overall but he sure gets beat off the dribble a lot
6. NF is our back up for now. Hoping GS will fill a role.
7. Had to have this win and somehow got it. Temple played well.
8. Say what ever you want about ES - no one plays harder. I'll take him on my team every day of the week.
9. As always, plenty of negative during the game comments by SN posters. Some are obvious haters and easy to notice.

I thought Dave said he thought JB and less so ES were defensive players of the game on Pierre Louis. They picked TW and JB as co-players of the game.

Yes, the zone is what virtually every team ran this year to beat Temple. Probably could have won by 15 if we ran it first half. Glad we finally installed it though.

Still can't believe the ES foul with 5 seconds left. And even more so I can't believe Mike Kennedy wasn't fazed by it at all. Literally kinda skipped through the playcall and acted like that was how you draw it up. That definitely deserved at least a... "wtf?"

During the stoppage in play before Temple Inbounded the ball with 11 seconds left, 3G and ES had a long chat. ES then walked over and chatted with a Ref. The ball was put in play and ES went straight to Rose and fouled him. You will never convince me that 3G didn't call the Code Red. But why? I don't get it.

My theory is that Gregg, having seen our free throw shooting all year, assumed that we wouldn't make the second and instructed Eric to foul up 3 and didn't have a chance to adjust the plan when we found ourselves up 4.

Not saying this is what happened but it's there only explanation i can come up with regarding the ES foul. 4 seconds left, up 2 with JB at the line. Chances are, after his FTAs, Shocks up 3 with 4 seconds left. In that scenario, GGG doesn't want another UCONN possibility. Either ES got the word to foul him before he gets to half court and the coaches didn't tell the team what to do if JB makes both or he misunderstood or didn't hear what happens if he makes both. It didn't look like the team or the coaches were crazy upset like he made a big mistake.

Im not a coach or even claim to be, but if i were, and I'm up 4 with 3 seconds left and the other team has to go 94' to score, i tell my team to not even get close to them. After the second free throw is made, just run down the court with them and let them jack up whatever they want. Worst thing that can happen is you win by 1 instead of 4.

This is the only one that makes sense. The only way you foul then is if you have 5 or less fouls so the other team throws the ball in. ES over thought it.
