  • McDuffie and Jones

This year’s offense continues to demonstrate how damn good McDuffie and Jones were last year. It is so easy for a good team and coach to take away our strengths.

I'm just thinking this guard oriented offense worked well in both the Big South and Missouri Valley conferences...but in the AAC with bigger-taller-longer athletes...its just not gonna cut it. Seems easy to defend at this level by simply the opponent being well...bigger-taller-longer.

We need guys that can finish off the dribble. The taller the better but SHJ was so dam quick that the other teams guards could not stay in front of him. He tore Cumberland and Cincy up because he was so quick.

Or maybe our guards are still very young? That could be it

            It’s certainly a large contributor.

The youth excuse does not fly for the sophomore class. These guys have been playing starter minutes for 2 years now.

Maybe it’s the fact that we aren’t cheating as well as the clucks up north?

MM only shot 40% and 34% from three but he also had 61 turnovers and only 37 assists for the season. Not great numbers.
SMJ was worse shooting under 36% and not quite 30% from 3 pt land. Unimpressive assist to turnovers also not great numbers.

We have no one who can, or will, take the ball to the hoop. Grant stops as soon as he gets across half court, JB tries to back his big butt in there once in a while but the opposing defense never has to worry about hustling back or stopping the ball. Yeah, sometimes you get stuffed - Fred did, plenty of times. He also made a lot of shots and drew a lot of fouls.

Not pushing the ball IS a problem.
