      Kansas Newman Plus/Minus

I wasn't at the game (weather scared me from the 2-hour drive home), so I can't evaluate these figures vis-a-vis the eyeball test of who had good games and who did not seem to.

        Bradley Game Plus/Minus

Sorry for the delay in posting this. Just returned from Alamo Bowl "basketball score type" game, Baylor 67 over Washington 56.

Interesting difference on Wessell between Prouty and Plus/minus.

Cotton has a very solid game.

The +/- for Kyles is a bit surprising.

I don't pretend to understand Prouty ratings or how meaningful they really are, im4, so to my untrained eye it seems odd that the team's calculated rating of .494 is higher than the calculated rating for any individual player.

Is that weird or a normal phenomenon that I just don't understand?

Essentially, the Prouty is determined by caalculating for each player an offensive effeiciency percentage; an offensive stat per minute played; a possession stat per minute played; and a factor for percentage minutes played times the team W/L percentage.

By definition, unless a player plays every minute of every game, the fourth factor for the player will be less than the team factor because it is W/L% * (ind min) / (40). Also, since the first factor is a percentage, rules on mathematics are that one cannot add percentages to get the total. Therefore, there are two portions of the formula which will allow the team figure to be outside the highest and lowest player figures.

Also, at least when I do the calculations, I include the TEAM rebounds along with the player rebounds, but that only increases the team rating by a few points.

Not much in these...we all know who played well. Perhaps somewhat of a surprise is the discrepancy between Prouty and Plus/Minus for Hall.

If you take all the Prouty averages of the players that played more than 2 minutes together, Hall comes out with the highest average.
                      Hall
                      Williams
                      Murry

                      Smith
                      Ragland
                      Kyles
                      Orukpe
                      Cotton
                      White

Williams had a heck of a game.
Notice Hall's +22. I think it really hurt our offense when he wasn't in the game. When he sat in the first half, the lead stopped increasing. In the second half, we really began standing around and launching 3-balls when he was sitting. I wonder how much we really miss his setting picks.

As you can see from the combinations playing more than 2 minutes, when Williams takes Ragland's place at the point, we drop way down.

                              I've calculated the all-games +/- per 40 for

Ragland without Williams on the floor......20.4
Ragland with Williams on the floor...........14.6
Williams without Ragland on the floor...... 8.9

The top two numbers only suggests that perhaps having Hall or Smith or Kyles or Murry or... is better than having Williams in the line-up at the same time.
Comparing the top and bottom leads to the conclusion that Ragland moves the team better than Williams.

Conference Games compared to all games

I have calculated the =/- for the five conference games and added the +/- and prouty to the Ill St. summary.

I'll let you draw your own conclusions.
