  • Everybody Happy Except 'pin

    Just kidding ya 'pin.

In all seriousness, how can you not like what's being done? They're happy, they'll learn from what worked and what didn't and build for the future.

It's going to happen, might as well embrace it and enjoy it. I had a great time and probably dropped in excess of 1k on the entire event, including tickets. We had fantastic seats, as good or better than my CKA tickets and that's saying something. And I will do it again, happily.

I was happy because I got to purchase a seat that I felt was worth what I payed ($67 lower bowl). If wsu goes back to assigning seats I won't be happy unles I have an equivalent view in Koch. And I think fever will tell you that can not be done in IBA due to geometry.

If they bring in better "name" opponent next time and maybe try and choose a better day they can probably sell it out.

It would appear that both the promoter and WSU understood the potential pitfalls to this game and allowed for it. Also, that depending on the promoter's adjusted view of the level in fan interest of a particular opponent, more reasonable intially priced tickets, with less deep discounts will happen in the future.

What I really liked was the talk of attracting high level, or high fan interest, opponents that we could only get with "H/H neutral court" situations.

Keys I see to overall quality scheduling (no, I don't presume to know better than HCGM or ADES): 1) Keep WSU's program consistent, if not improving, as a quality mid major program, 2) Continue to get into quality, early season tournaments, 3) If the MWC/MVC challenge fades away, for the Valley to replace the MWC with another quality conference (this can make scheduling easier for both conferences involved), 4) Build the IBA game into a marquee game for WSU, and 5) Given items 1-4, as much as I'm not a big fan of it, continue the BB games. Of course, it would be nice if all the Valley teams schedule better.

This scheduling will cause WSU to lose a home game, sometimes two, but greatly improve the chances of a quality RPI schedule while giving WSU fans more quality games to see in person. At the least, WSU will better their chances of Dancing with this aggressive scheduling and some success in the games. If they don't have enough success winning them, one can't blame the Valley for having only a single qualifier.

The promo man should put together the following:

KU,KSU,WSU + 1 strong MM, 2 BCS schools, each school plays KU, KSU, WSU once each over 4 day period (Thurs thru Sun). Chance at playing KU will help attract good teams, a Kansas team always on the court would mean strong attendance.

Sort of a tourney but not really.

True, but I would think that since the games at IBA are guarantee games, WSU would come out on the good end financially. The loss of a Koch game against the likes of the West Virginia School of the Deaf Dumb and Blind would be offset by the additional revenue (the guarantee) from a game at IBA against a high name opponent. I'm not sure I'm making much sense, so let me say it a different way. Instead of playing a Koch game against Chicago State, we decide to accept a promoter's offer to bring Kentucky to IBA, with the stipulation that we play Kentucky next year at Rupp. Would the guarantee offset both the lost revenue from the Chicago State game this year and a home game next year against some other cream puff? I have no idea what the revenue each game at Koch generates for WSU, and obviously this scenario is dependent on how much the guarantee is.

I was happy. 10 seats center court row 3. A little pricey, but worth it.

You also have to take into consideration that playing a Kentucky type team for a home and home has the potential to do amazing things for the program, that money has nothing to do with. Although I do think the hypothetical situation you stated is quite the pipedream. I really don't see us ever getting a promo game with a Kentucky, KU, UNC type of school. It just won't happen.

I agree, "Blue Bloods" are probably out and good BCS name teams are probably the ceiling. It was just an example. I'd personally like to see some of the high mid-majors pay a visit like Memphis, Gonzaga, or Xavier.

                            Glad the promotor was happy.

Gonzaga gets some good games at their neutral site. We'll have to earn that kind of game with consistency and runs in March. But games against some well known BcS schools are very possible if our program continues to climb the ladder and continue bringing in recruits, we can get those games. Maybe not against certain elites, but top quality BcS teams yes. And I'm not going to lie, if the GWAL could continue to produce some top talent, it could help. But I'm not banking on that.
