I am one of the smaller donors to SASO and park in the CC area way south of the arena. We pulled in last night and the reserved area for CC had been reduced by some 60-80 spaces. The old spaces had numbers painted on them where Guardians will park. A friend arrived at 6:30 and every space in CC was filled. Needless to say he was peeved. My question to the AD will be why was it reduced since the Guardian reserved spaces are NEVER more than 3/4 full. The other new wrinkle was the egress point onto hillside from that lot was closed which forced everyone onto the road heading south next to the fine arts building. We stayed for the entire game while many of the other faithful left early. It was a major pain to leave the lot even with fewer people trying to exit. I may have to either leave the game early (which really isn't an option) or just stay put and bring my own adult beverages and listen to the post game. I know its all about money but I really think they need to give a little more thought into some of these decisions and their impact.

+1. I too fell into the trap and parked illegally with my 84 year old father and a 5 year old in tow. I am generally not a complainer but the changes made to parking in that area didn't make me happy either. I may not own expensive seats but I do own seven of them.

For those interested, here is the SASO parking map:

I really don't see how this is a question, if bringing adult beverages and tailgating post game is an option. That sounds like it could be a trend.

All joking aside, I do feel your pain on parking issues and leaving. It gets pretty hectic with Hillside and 21st.

Pogo, remember it is not about fan loyalty, it is about fund raising, period.

I can fix it for you, just PM me and I will show you how to save a lot of money and take care of your problem.

I don't really see what options the Athletic Dept. has. If one of the benefits of contributing at the Guardian level is a numbered parking space in a priority lot and if more people contribute at that level then it seems that they must provide more reserved numbered parking spaces. I don't see another alternative. Obviously more people contributing at a higher level means that everyone else slides down a space but it is difficult as a Shocker fan to be too unhappy at seeing increased donors during a time of economic downturn.

If the map is to scale it looks like the CC parking to the east over by Corbin is about a 75% further walk than the south parking. Most of the time it won't be a problem if I arrive late but there are some times when bad/nasty weather will make it a beotch to walk. Looks like I need to leave earlier than I do now.

Pull into the CC lot, make someone get out of the car and lift up the little flags.

                  Problem solved.

I think the gate being closed must have been a 1st game mistake. There's no way someone would do something so stupid & counter-productive on purpose.
I was also quizzed about rather I deserved to park in a handicap spot. I explained that I drove for a man in his 90's. It was his car & his tag. And, I don't feel bad at all for parking where I can so I can get him picked up as quickly as possible after the game.

I'll buy the soda and ice and you bring the flask. We'll hook up some speakers to my iPhone to get the post game. And we'll finish the night singing about the NIT Championship to the tune of Auld Lang Syne.

I'm pretty sure you are right. We got all the way to the gate before we realized it was closed. By the time we made it out and were headed down Hillside towards 21st (some 15 minutes later), there was a Wu-cop trying to unlock it.

Too little, too late, but at least they noticed the problem and will probably have it corrected next time.

It did appear that they reduced the size of CC from the size shown on the SASO map. I could tell that it was going to be an issue when I parked early and most spots were already full.

my wife and i have a CC parking pass, but choose to park across from the education building on 21st. much shorter walk, and we don't have to wait to leave the parking lot.
