"College basketball national title odds..." - CBS Sports

"A look at five of the best and worst bets plus the long shots to consider to win it all...

    Best bets

    #2. MEMPHIS - Odds: 14-1
Why to bet the Tigers: This is theft! Memphis' incoming recruiting class is No. 1 in the country. If Duke was bringing in this class, they'd be title favorites. But at 14-1, Memphis is nearly categorized for me as a sleeper bet. While the Tigers' youth is a question, No. 1 recruit James Wiseman and a host of four-star freshmen should bring back the electricity to FedExForum as Penny Hardaway looks to make a second-year splash. This team will be long and athletic; if they can find some shooters, they'll prove the 14-1 odds here are a joke.

    Long shots

    #1. VCU - Odds: 80-1
Why to take a chance on the Rams: VCU won the Atlantic 10 by a healthy margin last season, and it brings back all but two players from last season's 25-win team. Most importantly, though, this Rams team is loaded with experience. Their top three returning scorers will be seniors in 2019, fitting the mold of a lethal mid-major team that could make a serious charge in March.

    #4. OKLAHOMA - Odds: 200-1
Why to take a chance on the Sooners: Brady Manek -- better known by some as Larry from the Prairie -- returns for the Sooners, providing them with a foundational junior. And coach Lon Kruger has a talented stable of youngsters incoming, headlined by top-50 point guard De'Vion Harmon, one of the most underrated guards in the 2019 class. Kruger has a lot of moving pieces with seven newcomers, but talent won't be an issue.

    Teams of Interest:
    TEAM 04/08/19 07/22/19
    Memphis 80-1 14-1
    Houston 40-1 60-1

    Cincinnati 60-1 100-1
    UConn 100-1 100-1
    West Virginia 100-1 100-1
    Oklahoma 200-1 200-1
    Ole Miss 100-1 200-1
    Oklahoma State 300-1 300-1
    Wichita State 300-1 300-1

    Illinois State?

"NCAA Basketball: 5 best value bets for winning 2019-20 national title" - FanSided Sports

    by Zach Stearman
    Posted: 08/21/19

Breaking down every teams future championship odds to determine the best value bets for the NCAA Basketball championship for the 2019-2020 season.

    HONORABLE MENTION: Cincinnati Bearcats (+6600)
If you want a true long shot and Baylor is not your style, take a look at the Bearcats. Nearly every team with odds this long will have a negative expected value on future bets, but Cincinnati is the exception. The +6600 odds are tied for 27th best per Bovada, but I have them at #13 in my preseason ratings. While the odds of Cincinnati cutting down the nets are still very slim at 1.6%, the long odds make it a reasonable gamble.
It is always difficult to predict how a team will perform after a coaching change, but John Brannen should not be discounted due to his relative inexperience. He was very successful at Northern Kentucky, turning a new Division I program into arguably the best team in the Horizon League.

Cincinnati had a good season last season, finishing second in the AAC and upsetting Houston in the AAC tournament. They suffered a disappointing opening round loss in the NCAA Tournament, but hopefully the experience will benefit them this season. They return their top three scorers, including Jarron Cumberland who won AAC Player of the Year honors last season. Cumberland shouldered too much of the offensive load for the Bearcats at times last season, but Top-50 shooting guard Zach Harvey should be another weapon to add to the returning roster.

When approaching a bet on a team like Cincinnati, you should be cautious due to the low chance of the bet cashing. However, with 66-1 odds, the risk might be worth the reward. Even a very small bet can lead to a big pay-day down the line if things work out. If you do put a few bucks on the Bearcats, maybe your ticket will be the one trending online if they end up cutting down the nets in April...."

            [2] Against the Spread Results

THE PROGRAMS YOU SHOULD HAVE BET ON
It’s inherently difficult for a team to beat the spread over the long run. Betting markets react to new information (like recent performance) and adjust accordingly. If a team beats the spread 10 games in a row, the market will self-correct.

But when you have 353 DI teams, there are bound to be some winners and losers against the spread — even over an entire decade. The list below ranks the top five winning percentages against the spread:

Teams ranked two-thru-five all have something big in common: They went to at least one Final Four during the decade. And yet Yale is the team that tops the list with a 58% winning percentage versus the spread.

It was a strong decade for James Jones’ program — who has been the head coach of Yale since 2000. Yale finished with two NCAA tournament appearances, one NCAA win, and even a top 50 KenPom finish.

From a coach perspective, Bob Richey led the way against the spread for the decade. He is only in his third season, but Richey’s Furman teams have beat the spread in 64% of games. On the other side of things, Todd Howard recorded the worst record against the spread — winning just 33% of games. He was fired at IUPUI after just three seasons.
