Kansas 22 games in 2011/2012

I'm very thrilled the Tulsa game was picked up. That was a no-brainer IMO. However, would you agree or not agree that over 60% of our televised games being on one subpar cable station is a limiting factor in trying to expand the viewership or reward the whole fanbase of Shocker basketball?

I would much rather have one of the local stations pick up the coverage (good for Wichita area), however, I understand that KS22 has a broader reach (good for some others). Since I subscribe to the bare minimum from COX I would not be able to watch on any of the other cable channels at home.

I can tolerate KS22, my pain threshold is pretty high.

Even during the Mike Cohen era we had about 8 to 10 games a year on Channel 10 (regular ttv). Back then you could also get ALL of the home games on TV by subscribing to the Shocker Channel for about $100 per year.

If we could support regular TV in the Mike Cohen era we should certainly be able to do it today. I am tired of this cox 22 stuff.

Its not "we" that TV stations are concerned with, it is advertising. And no matter what we might like to think, chances are the local stations probably can do better on ad revenues with their regular network programming than with preempting those shows for Shocker hoops. I just don't think the interest level outside of the metro area is strong enough.

I agree that this a totally different media era. But I would think that would help the Shocker games not hurt them.

In the old days, the local TV stations were the Kings of local Advertising and could command about whatever price they wanted. Everybody watched the network programming and advertisers paid premium prices to get to them.

Now fewer people are watching the network stations and network shows. The advertisers are going to other outlets. Local TV stations ad revenues are struggling at best. I would think that would make a Shocker TV package more attractive than ever because the Shockers have their own supporters that will buy ads for Shocker games to support the team as well as advertise their product. There is a built in advertising core that I would think would be more attractive to local stations than ever before.

Actually I would love for COX 22 to continue to broadcast the games outside of the Channel 12 viewing area. But inside the Channel 12 viewing area, I would rather the games be on KWCH. I believe that our Athletic Dept. needs to try and get this kind of deal. As many games as possible on KWCH (those same games on COX22 outside of TV 12 viewing area) with just a few games exclusively on COX 22.

As far as the network requirements, I heard that Channel 3 in Wichita is going to televise some third tier Ku games. So obviously ksn isn't haven't trouble meeting those national network requirements while televising a team that won't even play the local team.
