I'm still pretty salty about how 2016 went with all the injuries, including to Fred. That was a legit title contender in October.
Hell, let’s talk about the “overrated” 2014 team who “feasted on weak competition.” That team had 3 NBA players (including a draft pick and a key reserve of an NBA champion), one of the best defenders in college basketball, a three-headed double-double monster at the 5, the best coach in the country, and some of the best assistant coaches you could hope to have.

    That team deserved a natty.

Fred scored 12 points in the 4th Q. Leonard did not score until the last 3 FTs.

That is amazing right there, you think if you told GS that Kawhi wouldn't score in the 4th qtr until the last 10 seconds they'd have liked their chances?

Taylor Eldridge: Wichita State’s Fred VanVleet comes up big in NBA title-sealing win for Toronto Raptors

No one had the ball in their hands more in crunch time in the series-deciding Game 6 of the NBA Finals than the Wichita State graduate. And no one came up with bigger shots than VanVleet.

VanVleet became the first ex-Shocker to score more than 20 points in an NBA Finals game. He is also the first former WSU player to win an NBA championship since Cliff Levingston won back-to-back titles with the Chicago Bulls in 1991 and 1992 and fourth overall, joining Levingston and Nate Bowman and Dave Stallworth, teammates on the 1970 New York Knicks championship team.

Crazy stat of the day: Fred was a team worst -10.

He played a phenomenal 4th quarter and a great series. He let them nutz hang.

I always liked Hubie... Fred was tremendous all series and a key to the championship. Big big big nuts!

Need some clarification on Fred being undrafted. True, he did go unpicked, but that’s not exactly the story, right? I think teams wanted to draft him but told him that they’d stash him in the D-League/G-League/whatever they call it. Fred said EFF THAT, bet on himself, and here were are 3 years later. Does anyone else remember that?

I say that not to disparage Fred but to try to acknowledge that the NBA system is a bit more complicated than “every team passed on him.”

That's pretty much it. He had some teams interested in dating him mid to late second round, but no guaranteed contract. He also had had discussions with the raptors and decided he was better off not getting dragged as that would leave him room to negotiate and choose where to go and not just get stuffed in the d-league

FVV was smooth as silk as usual tonight in the big game. He had ice-water in his veins as the pressure cooker was boiling and came through with daggers to help seal the Raptors deal.. Fred also played some 'hair on fire defense' in this series too. Great Championship win. Such performances should help WSU even more in our recruiting in the future.. Players develop here at WSU and skeptics could not stop Fred achieving this epic accomplishment in his career. Congrats to Fred.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

So beyond proud of Fred. Not surprised one bit. Fred is a complete winner and has proved everyone wrong at every level. Proud day to be a Shocker!!
