NCAA Basketball: Ranking the top 10 conferences for 2019-20 season - FanSided Sports

      by Adam Childs
      Posted: 08/23/19

Last year we had some shakeup among the power five conferences. With all the changes this offseason is the ACC still the best conference in NCAA Basketball?

"...So while we might have to wait until the end of October for some college basketball, you don’t have to wait for our conference rankings.

      10. Mountain West
      9. Atlantic 10
      8. West Coast Conference
      7. Pac-12
      6. Big East
      5. American Athletic
Wait, the American conference ahead of the Big East. This can’t be right, can it?

In what may have seemed like crazy talk a year ago, is quite possible this year. Kelvin Sampson has turned the Houston Cougars into a power in the American and a challenger nationally. They were a crazy buzzer-beater away from making the Sweet 16 two years ago and played Kentucky down to the wire last year. They are very good and could be very good again this year.

The American, though, is not just a one-team race anymore. Cincinnati is a top 25 caliber team, Temple is good also and throw in Wichita State and you have three very good teams. But the one that could put them over the top is what Penny Hardaway is building at Memphis. He brought in one of the top recruiting classes to a team that was starting to find its way at the end of last year.

The TIgers after somewhat of a rough start last year still won 22 games in just missing the NCAA tournament, but they look like they could make a huge leap to the top and challenge Houston. UCF was a tip away from knocking off Duke last year but lost a lot of talent, but Johnny Dawkins looks like he could be pushing this team to greater things.

Most conferences we don’t pay attention to the very bottom, but there sits Tulane and their new head coach Ron Hunter. Hunter did wonderful things at Georgia State and after they didn’t want to pay him he fell into the Green Wave’s lap. This could be one of those sneaky good hires wherein a couple of years Tulane is near the top and people where they came from. If he can improve them at all this first year it just makes the conference that much more exciting because Hunter is a joy to watch coach.

The American will miss UConn who jumped ship for the Big East, but this conference definitely deserves its seat at the big boys table this year.

      4. Big 12
      3. Big Ten
      2. SEC
      1. ACC..."

Checked out the u gone board and they are collectively like a bunch of girls before prom. Everything is great in the near future when they will once again take their rightful place among the elites. Ticket sales are in anticipation of next year and recruiting is better. No one seems to care where the money will come from to subsidize football. It won’t be new basketball

NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Top 25 impact Junior College transfers for 2019-20 - FanSided Sports

There are many NCAA Basketball teams who benefitted from incoming Junior College transfers for this upcoming season. Who are the most notable JUCO guys?

"There are many NCAA Basketball teams who benefitted from incoming Junior College transfers for this upcoming season. Who are the most notable JUCO guys?...

          22. Tajzmel Sherman – West Virginia, JUCO school: Collin College (Might get a shot at him in the Cancun Challenge)...

          8. Trey Wade (they had his name misspelled) – Wichita State, JUCO school: South Plains -
Another player who went the JUCO route after a coaching change, the former UTEP forward became a sought-after prospect after putting up 13 ppg and 6.8 rpg for the juggernaut South Plains team. At 6’7, Ware showed the ability to play both the small and power forward positions for the Shockers. And with West Virginia transfer Teddy Allen not with the program anymore, there’s an even bigger need for the JUCO newcomer to have a big impact.

Wade also will be one of the most experienced players on the roster as well, one of just three underclassmen. So not only will he have to provide on the court the production, he’ll have to be one of the leaders for the team as well. There’s a lot of unknowns for Wichita State next year but Ware’s play could answer a lot of questions about their collective ceiling.

          4. Tyson Jolly – SMU, JUCO school: Trinity Valley...
          3. Tremont Robinson – East Carolina, JUCO school: Northwest Mississippi Community College...
          1. Khadim Sy – Ole Miss, JUCO school: Daytona State (will get a shot at him at 'the Roundhouse" on Saturday 01/04/20)..

"Wichita State Basketball: Shockers a sleeper for 2019-2020 season" - FanSided Sports

After missing out on the Big Dance last season, Wichita State Basketball is flying under the radar. Can they get back to top-tier status in the AAC?

"After missing out on the Big Dance last season, Wichita State Basketball is flying under the radar. Can they get back to top-tier status in the AAC this time around?

Leading up to the start of the 2019-2020 college basketball season I plan to put out a piece addressing one team each week that I think has the potential to exceed their expectations. A team that maybe hasn’t gotten a lot of love from the national media in the preseason, a team that seems to be flying under the radar or feel that they’re being disrespected. Make no mistake these teams have the tools necessary to make a run this year and make some noise. These teams have the potential to make a statement and it’s time they got some attention. To kick off the Sleeper Watch series our first team breakdown will be Wichita State Basketball....

            NEXT: Analyzing Key Players
Top Returning Scorer – Jaime Echenique - Echenique is back for his senior year and will be a pivotal part of a Shockers frontcourt that is likely going to see a lot of guys get minutes. The 6-11 big man is someone that Wichita State fans have grown to love and someone who Greg Marshall has always been high on....

Player Most Likely to Breakout – Dexter Dennis - Dennis matured a lot last season towards the end of the season as a freshman and the experience he was able to gain will pay dividends. Dennis will be a regular starter like he was at the end of last season and should be given a longer leash from head coach Greg Marshall....

A Freshman to get Excited For – Tyson Etienne - Greg Marshall was very excited about getting this kid, he said “This is a young man we really liked on the recruiting trail. He played for Coach Terrance ‘Munch’ Williams and the PSA Cardinal on the summer circuit. He’s a combo guard who can play off-the-ball as well as handle it. He’s a dead-eye shooter and body-ready to compete for major minutes walking in the door”...

            Nov 26th South Carolina (Cancun)
            Nov 27th UNI/West Virginia (Cancun)
            Dec 8th @ Oklahoma State
            Dec 14th Oklahoma
            Dec 21st VCU
            Jan 4th Ole Miss

...While Oklahoma State wasn’t all that good last year it’s still a great opportunity to pick up a valuable win. Oklahoma and VCU both coming to Kansas is big, a chance to see one of the frontrunners in the A-10 with a good VCU team and an Oklahoma team coming off a trip to the NCAA tournament....Regardless these are three more great opportunities to grab some quality wins and get ready for conference play in the AAC. The rest of their schedule shouldn’t prove to be too difficult. Winning two of those three would go a long way for Wichita State to claim a non-conference bid as long as the Shockers take care of business in the rest of their games.

            UConn (Away)
            Cincinnati (Home and Away)
            Memphis (Home and Away)
            Houston (Home and Away)
            Temple (Home and Away)

...Two games against Memphis, Cincinnati, and Houston are all going to tough games with all three schools looking to make the tournament. One thing emphasized in the non-conference portion is the importance of quality wins and Wichita State is going to need to win some of those tough games in conference play.

NEXT: the Value of Gregg Marshall
Gregg Marshall is a perfect fit at Wichita and has the full backing of the fans, he’s a proven winner and there’s no reason to second guess him after missing out on the tournament last season. Marshall will rebuild and if it doesn’t happen this year it’ll happen the year after. With only one senior on his roster this year he has an opportunity to further develop more talent. Something Marshall has proved he excels at. Marshall has spent a lot of time out on the recruiting trail and getting a player like Etienne proves that he’s still got some big pull...."

Wichita State Basketball: Young Shockers are an AAC challenger In AAC - College Hoops Watch

                by Ken Cross
                Posted: September 12, 2019, 2:44pm cst

"Coach Gregg Marshall presided over one of the youngest basketball teams in the nation last season and turned a rebuilding program back into a perennially tough winner in the second half of the season. After a 3-game losing streak left the youthful Shockers at 8-11 on Jan. 26, Wichita State won 14 of it’s next 18 which ended in a run to Madison Square Garden and a berth in the NIT semifinals. The Shockers were also the only team in NIT history to make it to the Final Four after beating the top three seeds in their region.

Wichita State will boast a sophomore/freshman dominated roster which will feature big men in senior Jaime Echenique and junior Asbjorn Midtgaard in the post. With so much depth and so many options regarding the versatility of this team, the Shockers will return to the NCAA Tournament while asserting themselves as a contender in the American Athletic Conference...."

                  20 predictions for the 2020 NCAA tournament - NCAA.COM

                  ANDY KATZ | NCAA.COM CORRESPONDENT
                  SEPTEMBER 10, 2019

"Summer predictions are to be saved so we can refer back to them at the end of the season, sometimes even asking ourselves, "What were we thinking?"

So much has changed since our first Power 36 after the Final Four. And of course we reserve the right to change again before the first game tips off and then again once the season is fully underway.

But in this case, I’m feeling pretty good that I will be in the ballpark with these 20 predictions for the 2020 NCAA men's basketball tournament.

                  Let the debate begin!...

8 teams out of the 2019 NCAA tournament who'll be in the 2020 tournament:
                  8. Illinois (Big Ten): Patience will pay off for Illinois fans. Brad Underwood has this team ready to make a move.
                  9. Colorado (Pac-12): McKinley Wright IV is ready to lead the Buffaloes to the tournament.
                  10. Davidson (A-10): Kellan Grady and Jon Axel Gudmundsson form one of the best backcourts in the country.
                  11. Georgetown (Big East): The Hoyas have the backcourt and now have the big man in NC State transfer Omer Yurtseven to make the move.
                  12. Alabama (SEC): Guard Kira Lewis Jr. and coach Nate Oates will combine to lead the Tide to a bid.
                  13. Notre Dame (ACC): Rex Pflueger was one of the better scorers in the ACC before he was done for the season. He’s back and so are the Irish.
                  14. Wichita State (AAC): The Shockers have the backcourt in Dexter Dennis and Jamarius Burton and coach Gregg Marshall’s drive to push the Shockers to the tournament.
                  15. BYU (WCC): The Cougars have one of the top scorers in the country in Yoeli Childs back. New coach Mark Pope has re-energized the Cougars.

5 teams who'll be on the brink of a NCAA bid
                  16. Penn State (Big Ten): Lamar Stevens will have the Nittany Lions in the mix.
                  17. USF (AAC): David Collins leads an experienced crew returning for Brian Gregory.
                  18. Pepperdine (WCC): Lorenzo Romar has the Waves in position to get a bid in large part because he has a great scorer in Colbey Ross.
                  19. South Carolina (SEC): AJ Lawson’s return means Frank Martin has his lead guard to take the Gamecocks possibly into the tournament.
                  20. Oregon State (Pac-12): Tres Tinkle and his dad/coach Wayne have tirelessly worked to put the Beavers in this position. They are ready to make a push for a bid."

NCAA Basketball: Ranking the top 25 programs of the 2010s - FanSided Sports

                          https://bustingbrackets.com/2019/10/...rograms-2010s/

"Now that the 2010s are over, let’s look back on the past few years of NCAA basketball. Who were the best programs in the country throughout the decade?

                          March Madness.
Two words that simply bring excitement to any room. Over the past several years, fans have scribbled on brackets, taken off work, and stared unblinkingly at the unthinkable on the television screens. And why? Because NCAA basketball is one of the most exciting sports in the world and there are electrifying moments that occur throughout each season, especially once the Madness hits. Over the course of this past decade, programs around the nation showed their worth as perhaps some of the best of the 2010s.

There were several tremendous teams and outrageous finishes over the course of this past decade. Even though only seven programs were crowned champions, there were plenty of surprises that cropped every year. Mid-majors made magical runs to the Final Four, Kentucky went undefeated until the final weekend of the Big Dance, and championship games were decided in the final seconds on several occasions. To put it simply, this was an incredible decade of college basketball.

Now that the 2010s are complete, though, it is time to take a look back and analyze which programs were truly the most successful. In this article, I will break down my rankings for the top 25 programs of the decade. As one would expect, bluebloods are littered throughout the rankings as some of the top programs in the nation. Many of these schools, though, might not have been even on the radar to reach this list in 2009. Those teams truly shocked (that’s a little hint) the nation with their impressive play on the court.

Now, without any further ado, let’s dive headfirst into this look at the best programs of the 2010s.

                          25 KANSAS STATE WILDCATS...
                          22 VCU RAMS...
                          21 BAYLOR BEARS...
                          20 WEST VIRGINIA MOUNTAINEERS...
19 WICHITA STATE SHOCKERS - Wichita State is arguably the most surprising inclusion on this list considering the state of the program prior to the start of the decade. Yet, the Shockers absolutely belong as a result of their sensational performances under head coach Gregg Marshall. WSU emerged as a powerhouse in the Missouri Valley Conference at the beginning of the decade and used that success to propel into the high-major ranks as a member of the AAC. Wichita State’s surprising run to the Final Four in 2013 is probably its most memorable moment of the decade but let’s not forget about the season that followed. Behind a superb backcourt of Fred VanVleet and Ron Baker, as well as Cleanthony Early, the Shockers’ 2013-14 team posted an undefeated 34-0 record in the regular season en route to landing a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Even though they were bounced in the second round by Kentucky, it was an impressive season that deserves to be remembered. Wichita State made seven total NCAA Tournament appearances over the course of the decade. Coach Marshall also led the program to a top-25 average KenPom ranking and five regular-season conference titles (two conf. tourney trophies).
                          17 ARIZONA WILDCATS...
                          15 OHIO STATE BUCKEYES...
                          11 UCONN HUSKIES...
                          10 GONZAGA BULLDOGS...
                          7 LOUISVILLE CARDINALS...
                          5 KANSAS JAYHAWKS..
