That might not be a bad thing. If this game were in the season package at Koch (18 games at $349 compared to 17 t $330), we wouldn't be wasting time arguing the impact of a non-sellout.

But without the game being brought to us by the promoter, we would most likely be playing some +100 rpi team at home.

There lies the quandary with the situation. If we can prove to other promoters we travel well to IBA, we could open ourselves up to a lot more of these types of games.

I think RPI 300+ would have been more likely at Koch.

I was being kind with my assessment. I think you're right though :)

UAB may be a 100+ RPI team this year. They're picked 6th in CUSA which would lead one to believe, based off of history, that they'll be in triple digits. That's still better than 300+, but this is also a game that we could, and have, pulled off at home. So it's not a game that is the only way we could get it is to play at IBA. And to be honest, I'd rather have a H/H with UAB than a one time game.

"travel well" made me laugh, because IBA is actually probably closer to most of us than Koch is!

I tend to agree with the first part of your post, in regards to us getting similar types of games at Koch. The thing is, have we? The last few years we've had a bunch of 200-300 RPI teams at Koch. The only ones that have not fallen into this category have been BB or BB return games, which I don't think counts.

However, I totally disagree with your last point. You'd rather have a home and home with UAB? Here, we get a practical home game out of the deal and a nice sum of guaranteed money. We get to promote ourselves to outsiders which could potentially lead to bigger opponent draws at IBA. We get to play in a nice civic arena, which opens the doors up to a lot more WSU fans that otherwise would be turned away by Koch's limited capacity. We get to play at what Marshall calls a "great recruiting tool". And you'd rather we give that up for a game that we're gonna have to go out on the road to next year in Alabama? I guess we do need a few road challenges to test the team, but I dunno if I'd *rather* have a home and home with this situation.

What WSU should have done was lower the season ticket package by about $20 to offset the loss of one game. But of course they aren't gonna do that, despite the fact they'll be getting a check anyways for the IBA game..

                    • There are far worse things than having a road game in Alabama. Road games only boost RPI and we recruit in the South. The staff does need to do a better job of scheduling though. I really believe that they don't want to go on the road for much of anything. Which is all fine and dandy if you can get good games at home. They struggle to do that.

As it's been said, UAB is not the type of game that IBA is ideal for. Hence the low ticket sales. So yes, I'd rather have a H/H with them. I'd be curious to know how much WSU makes from home games when it comes to advertising and concessions. The 125k may not be that much when it comes down to it.

We really should go after more H/H games with good teams. Especially those to the East and South. A couple of H/H series would be nice. We have Tulsa, but after that.... It can be done. Others get it done. We can if we really want. Too many cupcakes make one sick...

Even if we're undefeated when this game comes around, I doubt it's better attended than Tulsa. UAB simply isn't a draw around here. No matter how good they could be.

Yes, I know you didn't say it would, but the implication is there. Otherwise, why bring it up?
Royal, You may be right that Marshall wouldn't care at the end of the year but you don't know how he feels for sure. What we do know for sure is that he stated several times last year that he wanted to improve the profile of WSU by bringing in teams to IBA for games (it sounded like he was committed to it to me). Again on one of the Sports Radio programs, he stated this year that WSU fans needed to answer the call and buy tickets because there were other possible BCS games that promoters were entertaining that we may lose with a bad turn out for this UAB game. From all of his statements the past two years, Marshall has a vision for how to use IBA to upgrade our program and some of our fanbase may be fighting against it.

                        • Regarding changing season ticket prices based on how many home games there are, it'll never happen. That price is set and most have been paid for months before the schedule is released.

The price is more about the value of attending games, and less about the number of games.

                          • I have seen/heard a couple of adds on TV and on Radio in the last couple of days. Not surpising they would wait until closer to the date of the game to start promoting it.

If you can't afford to go to the game, I understand.

If you can't understand why Shocker fans ought to want to attend the game, I don't understand.
