  • Wichita State vs Temple Pregame Thread

It's 11 PM and I am making this thread because start times.

We sank the Pirates, now we try to eliminate those Hooters out of Philly.

It took us blowing a lead in front of our home crowd to lose in Overtime last time we met in January.

It's a winnable game. KenPom has Temple winning 71-69.

If it's our last game with this roster, make it a memorable one.

I'm really proud of these guys. Coach demands an awful lot from everyone in his program, and it's never easy, and rarely fun. They ALL deserve an ovation for the successes they've had this year and I hope they get to enjoy some more fruits of their labors. How about we make it last a bit longer?

They've been a lot of fun to watch this year, for me, and mostly a wrecking ball the last third. Go get 'em Shocks.

We match up well with Temple. Our bigs can stay inside since their inside guys are not outside threats. It really boils down to Dexter and Markis being able to guard Alston and Rose without getting in foul trouble. Also, Haynes-Jones or Burton will have to make sure Pierre-Louis doesn't go off and keep him off the boards. We defend well and shoot better from 3 today. Shocks by 6.

Temple hasn't played in a week. We got a warm up last night.

Last time Temple played at the FedEx forum they shot 37%/25%. I really think that arena messes with shooters. So that's a good thing for us that we got in some extra time there yesterday.

I'm guessing they are going to collapse around our big men and make us beat them from the
perimeter. Important our big men don't force things and kick it back out when doubled. Rebound,
keep turnovers under 12 and make them earn everything. Hope we play well. It's been a very
          interesting season. Go Shockers !

That's pretty cool that this team has come far enough this year and is considered only that much of dog on a neutral court to a team that could be Dance bound.

Weird. One sportsbook has us at -1 and the other at +1.5.

Temple is actually “picked to win” on that book. Betting WSU for $100 pays $108. Betting Temple to win is $118 to win $100. Not sure why the spread is set like that.

The seniors have to shoot better than 2/10 & 3/8 from last night. I agree with the idea that Temple will likely pack the paint and see if we can beat them outside. If ES can get hot, or the seniors can shoot it better than they have the last month, WSU has a good chance to win. The fact that the Shox are playing much better defense now than they were will help out, but I would bet a pretty good $$ that Temple tries to play down hill and get Alston/Rose/Pierre-Louis to the FT line as much as possible. The challenge will be playing without your hands on defense and getting good looks on offense. Last night was pick & roll offense, tonight will have to be pick & pop offense.

If they don't panic and they trust each other, I think they come out on top. WSU- 74 Temple- 71

Wondering if our two seniors have lost their legs? They've played a lot of minutes and might be wearing down. Here's to 'shocking' the AAC and winning the tournament, followed by a little rest before the big dance. "I've just closed my eyes again, climbed aboard the dream weaver train..."

WstateU, it certainly is a valid question. Some of it though, imo, is the quality of shots being taken. One of them tends to get antsy and hunt/force his shot a little more than the other. Leading to some questionable shot selection.

TV Ted T's up 3G after a blown blarge call with less than 5 seconds to go, robbing Markis of a potential game clinching 4 point play. Video replay shows the egregious mistake on the scoreboard and the entire crowd, sans the 100 or so Owl fans in attendance, rain down triple Bs onto the floor (Triple Bs=boos, booze and bottlecaps), forcing an evacuation of the FEF and a replay Saturday morning. Gameday moves to Memphis to cover the fiasco. The Coach's Roundtable of Bill Self, Roy Williams, Jim Boeheim & Lil' Pitino all claim WSU cheats and shouldn't be allowed to continue in the tournament.

UCF is a bigger favorite over Memphis on their home court than Temple over us on a neutral.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

I would be all over the home dog in this one. Memphis, err....Martin is playing very well right now.

We need to attack on the drive too. Louie Pierre is a nice defender but Temple isn't a great defensive team.

I know FC is too young to know this but his Hooters reference reminded me of The Hooters, a Philly area band from the 80s that had a couple of hits for themselves. They also wrote hits for Joan Osborne and Cyndi Lauper. This is my favorite Hooters tune. Go Shocks!
