  • I Met a KU Grad Today

I met a KU graduate today.

Now I know for most of you that this is not an unusual experience and apparently it is not normally a pleasant one either. But for me, it is rather unusual as I left Wichita 50 years ago and the last time I was there was in 2005. So, I rarely meet a KU student or graduate.

I was sitting with my wife in the office of her new Cardiologist, who by the way is recognized as the top doctor in his field in Daytona Beach and the entire surrounding area. While we were waiting for him to first arrive, I glanced at the wall in his office and there were three certificates indicating various medical degree achievements from Kansas University dated in the early and mid 1970's.

So when he first walked in I asked him if he was from Kansas. "No," he stated, "I grew up in Tulsa, but received my medical training at KU. I see your wife was born in KC. Are you folks from Kansas?"

I replied, "We both grew up in Wichita and went to Wichita State."

He smiled and said, "Wichita is my most favorite city in the whole world. And I am a big fan of the Shockers as well. In fact, my best buddy lives there and my wife and I visit Wichita every year. We likely will probably retire there eventually."

And after a lengthy examination, he gave my wife a clean bill of health.

I gotta confess, it has taken well over a half century, but I finally met a brilliant and nice chap from KU.

    Will miracles never cease!

    Lies! -or-

Hell froze over and Dofo is gonna get a girl! -or-

    Proof of God! -or-

You just got taken to the cleaners by a cardiologist that sells used cars on the weekend. How big was your bill? Did you notice when KU came up he _quickly_ changed the subject so you wouldn't be on to him? And he started right in with the flattery. Hmmmmmmm. I think he has been faking it through all those heart surgeries. -or-

The drinks are flowing freely over at your place?

I will, regrettably, be attending the University of Kansas next year.....unless I can get OOS Tuition waved at OU or ISU.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

Did I red that right? Someone from Florida is going to retire to Wichita?

Actually I met a couple about 10 years ago at a Shocker baseball game who had just moved from Florida to retire in Wichita.

            Surprisingly it does happen.

Great story with a terrific ending...a clean bill of health.

The Dr. says he received medical training at KU, but obviously not his undergrad work, because he certainly did not take/pass the required "NoseRaising 101" course.

"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

So, he grew up in Tulsa, must have lived awhile in KC, resides in Daytona Beach . . . and Wichita is his favorite city.

It just goes to show how silly it is to bash people's choices of where to live.

                          Don't try too hard.

Lawrence is a much better town than either Norman or Ames.

And, ironically, the KU fans are less douchebaggy the closer you get to Lawrence. Strange but true.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Wichita was the #11 city in the nation to raise a family. Sounds like a place I would want to live, if I was into living in a city.

I know two KU guys out here. One is from Hutch and is the nicest guy. The other is from Wichita. I met him at a golf tournament and when I told him I went to Wichita State he walked away in mid conversation.
