Tells you a lot about how tough scheduling has become for us and make the UAB @ IBA game even more of a no brainer (at least this year).
On the bright side at least we are keeping our buyout money in town.
Not sure if the timing of the Chicago State and Newman games on December 14 and 19, respectively, followed by the Christmas break is good or bad.
After the opener against Charleston Southern the schedule is actually pretty challenging unit we get to Chicago State.
With all the newcomers on this team I think this is probably OK. We get a couple of games to work on things and perhaps get more PT for some of the newcomers. With the Christmas breake the guys get their legs back under them before beginning the conference schedule at Bradley on December 28th. Hopefully, that will have us ready to for a big New Year's Eve party in Koch Arena.
We got the schedule out before October! Woohoooo!!
Newman is disappointing. Half the schedule is legit, the other half is fugly. Yah, I'm well aware of the fact that you need some fillers in with your meat. But one more good game could have really capped off a really great schedule. One true road game. I guess it'll be two with the BB opponent.
At least it's out. I'll be interested to see the television schedule whenever it comes out.
Also, it would be nice to see some info about Shocker Madness. Some people are busy and would like to plan these things out before the last minute.
Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

I agree with Fever about the schedule needing one more good road game. We passed on it long ago as we could of elected to return the VCU game this year.

Considering the team we have, it wouldn't have been a bad idea either.
As best as I can tell, and don't hold me to this, but here are the number of games in my defined Road Apple division for each season starting with 2001-2002
Declining 1 game may or may not be a trend, but I think it's obvious Coach Marshall is willing to assemble a more challenging schedule than Coach Turgeon was willing to tackle.
As long as it's not the 6th or 7th bad game, I have no problem playing Newman, in fact I like it. The schedule has plenty of meat for the team to reach any and all goals. There is no UCONN must win or the season is shot (per the talking heads) game.
I have enjoyed the past Newman games. They were excited to play us and I think everyone gets more out of that game than any exhibition or Ark-Monticello type. These kids will care and it will matter to the coaches. It's good for the game.
I would rather play Newman and eliminate Chicago State, for instance, in favor of a really good road game, but at this point it kind of seems like splitting hairs. There is about as much as you can expect on this schedule.
You don't want to know what I think our record should be on Jan 15.
I'd actually say that losing to Colorado at Puerto Rico could be a defining mark on the schedule as losing a huge opportunity.
To me, Colorado, and even the 2nd game of the PRTO are must wins on the season.
If we do happen to lose those games, we HAVE to win the rest of our Non Con games, as well as at least split Creighton in games, and hope we don't have a bad loss like SIU last year.
The key with the PRTO is that they're televised, good competition, and early. We already are getting some preseason top 25 talk, and if we can capitalize on the PRTO, we could be a top 25 ranked team after the tournament is over.
The Shox failed to take advantage of UCONN last year and you saw how bad that killed us in the at-large discussion. Your point is exactly correct, first we have to beat Colorado and get at least a second win against a top 100 rpi program while down there.
I think the schedule is slightly better than last year, thanks to the PR tip off having quality opponents in case we lose the first game against Colorado. We go two and one in PR and not mess up to badly the rest of the season, we have a chance for an at-large.
