Actually that pick of us probably is pretty accurate from the outside looking in (but we know better). The Memphis pick is silly....just goes to show you what hype does—head coach with zero college wins. If they draw 18k every game they may be a tough out at home but there a lot of those places in this league.

I look at this year as a fun year with a lot of dislike already for some of the other teams in the conference. ShockerFever will be in attack mode early and I cannot wait.

Other than McDuffie and HCGM what proven entities are we putting on the floor? 8th doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility. We don't get name on the jersey votes like our MVC days.

I don't disagree. We have lots of unproven, young, inexperienced players coming in. Marshall has shown he can handle turnover before, but we were basically completely emptied. If SHJ proves to be a serious factor, then I think 8th might be a best case scenario.

Our name still carries weight with the national pundits. We've gotten a lot of 4th-6th predictions from those folks, which I think is more than fair. I do like that we're back with chip-on-the-shoulder mentalities. I don't like seeing us slotted so low even with the overhaul. Not used to it.

I do think Memphis is being overvalued A LOT with its 4th place slot. The coaches have set that fanbase up nicely with a likely fail.

I think our "MVC days" are exactly why the AAC coaches poll puts us lower than most of the other preseason polls, if you know what I mean. Not a ton of respect for that conference by a group that by majority includes schools that used to be a part of the BCS.

I've seen the players up close and personal. I also have the luxury of comparing them to what I've seen in previous summers. We have A LOT of talent and skill. Nobody knows a thing about Marshall save for McDuffie and Rod, but learning is the least of my worries from this bunch. The intelligence quotient is higher than in the past. We'll sputter a bit out of the gate, but people are going to be very pleased with this crop of thoroughbreds sooner rather than later.
