Their situation is kind of a no-win situation. If a new coach comes in and does well (or better) with Dunleavy's players and recruits, was it the new coach or the previous coach's players? If they don't win or do well, the old coaches players can be blamed, even though they may not be the problem. If the new coach cleans house some or loses some players, he'll make it very clear this may take several years to turn around.Originally posted by Stickboy46 View Post
It's simply a higher risk move when a team is so young. When a coach is let go because his own recruits never developed into a satisfactory level of play, that's a whole different situation. This year's best scorer, a sophomore, was a Dunleavy recruit. Senior Cornish (UNLV) and junior Sehic (Vandy) (2nd leading scorer) were D-I transfers that sat out Dunleavy's first year. Tulane's PG for the previous 2 years was 6'5" junior Embo who was injured all season after scoring over 10 ppg last year.
Assuming Embo returns next season, they have the makings of improving a lot. Wonder how our young team would have done had Burton got injured after a couple of games.Comment
