The Big Least is doing an excellent imitation of trying to get more of its teams into the Dance.
All season long, Villanova and Marquette were shoe-ins with St Johns great record in the non-con of 12-0 (against generally weak teams) has held them up all season long as getting in.
Villanova was 19-4 overall at one time and always 1st or 2nd in league play with a big lead on the pack.
Marquette was much the same. They were 23-4 overall at one time and always 1st or 2nd in league play with a big lead on the pack.
While St Johns has not been able to break out of the Big East pack, their 19-7 overall record has continued to keep them well off the bubble.
So what has happened? Well, somehow Villanova has only managed to go 3-5 down the stretch, but still remain in 1st place at regular season's end.
Marquette some how dropped it's last 4 games! No fear, they still are 3 games up in 2nd place.
Now St John's, feeling confident in their accomplishments, finished the regular season by going 1-4 and still in the Big Pack (sort of), but can finish no better than 6th or 7th depending on the Creighton / DePaul game. That's right, they could end up tied with ted with CU and DePaul (if CU loses) or in 7th by themselves if CU wins.
Seton Hall, who has been in and out of the brackets all season long finished tied for 3rd (surely they're safe)……...along with Georgetown, Xavier, and maybe Creighton.
I just found it interesting how it all worked out. Don't you? :bball_spin:
