  • Brazil Trip

UNI is 4-0 on their Brazil trip.

    62-48 over Jundiai
    79-72 over Americana
    65-52 over Jundiai
    95-37 over Botofoga
    92-63 over Fluminense

Not sure if the Shocks will be playing the same or comparable teams but I was hoping the level of competition would be a little tougher than this appears to have been for the Panthers.

Still the 10 extra days of practice and the team bonding that this trip should provide should be of great value for this Shocker team.

Here are the Shockers games in Brazil:

    Tue., Aug. 9 vs. Palmeiras

Wed., Aug. 10 vs. Brazilian National Team

Fri., Aug. 12 vs. Flamengo Sports Club

Sun., Aug. 14 vs. Tijuca Sports Club

    Mon., Aug. 15 vs. TBD

Not the same teams as UNI has played.

The Wichita State Shockers will depart this Sunday, Aug. 7 for a 10-day trip to Brazil. The Shockers will play five games during the trip and will return to Wichita on Thursday, Aug. 18.

If this is the Flamengo team we will be playing it should be interesting.

Decent size and average age of 27.5 years so these are grown men.

Just to squelch any and all comparisons between our games and UNI, there is none.

The level of competition the Shocks are playing is on a different planet than that the Panthers played.

Seriously, playing their National team is likely to be a real wake up call, especially for the youngin's.

I can't find very much on the Palmeiras team. Looks like they may be putting together a new team based on this article:

              National Team U22
              National Team U20/21

There are 3 current NBA'ers on the National Team.....that would be interesting to say the least if any of those guys play.

                  For the record:

Tiago Splitter - San Antonio Spurs

Anderson Verejao - Cleveland Cavaliers (injured for the season in Jan)

                  Leandro Barbosa - Toronto Raptors

To say we'd have our hands full against that group would be a huge understatement. I don't know what the NBA CBA discussions have to do with player availability.

Verejao's injury I am sure will keep him out of the discussion. Barbosa is also often injured and played limited minutes last season. I would suspect he is also doubtful.

Verjao aka sideshow bob wont do much other than flop around all the time.

But regarding the current lockout they will be able to play pretty much wherever they want

Should be a great experience for the team. An excellent chance for HCGM to evaluate his new players and get some early teaching in.

I know it was discussed elsewhere but I never saw the resolution -- will these games be broadcast on radio or over the internet?
